Hi, when I try to install this I get an error telling me I need to restart the installation. I've tried several different things such as all emulations on / off and even copying the files to my hard drive and installing them that way but it still comes up with the same error in the exact same place.

I've scanned my registry for keys and everything else that has been recommended but it still produces the error. The download isn't corrupt though because it works on my friends Pc and I've downloaded it from different sources and it's the exact same file.

The problem is at the installation ?? What is the exact message ?

Try emptying your temp folders c:\documents and settings\"username"\local settings\temp (maybe you'll need to enable "view hidden files". Then reboot to be sure.

Or try downloading latest windows installer from microsoft (that solved a problem I was having a lot time ago)

If nothing else works you can try copying the full game installation from your friend's PC to yours.
Sometimes it works... sometimes not.

Fan site Planet Battlefield has a screenshot from a now shut down portion of the official EA Battlefield web site that seems to reveal info on Northern Strike, a possible upcoming booster pack for the sci-fi multiplaye shooter from developer Digital Illusions. According to the image the booster pack will be released this spring and will include three new maps, two new vehicles, 10 new unlockable items and more. So far EA has yet to officially announce any booster packs for Battlefield 2142.

I would buy it for the new unlocks alone, personally I think they hit a winner with the unlock system in 2142.

It's very successful, it has player base same size of BF2.

I wrote them even before they put this application on the website. There was just a message to send an e-mail. So it is not that I'm too late. I didn't write something different from you. Oh, hell. Just wanted to try the game before buying it. Looks like I should download it.

I think I'm gonna buy 2142 the next time I see it somewhere but I have 1 question - how's the unlock system different from BF2?

Oh quite a bit. hang on gonna see if I can find a good site that explains it in brief.
Check this out http://www.totalbf2142.com/page.php?do=unlocks
As you can see there is slots on your soldier, so you can have "more" unlocked items at the same time. There is also more "gadgets" to unlock in 2142 vs BF2. Some are general and some are class specific. There is also special unlocks for Squad leaders and stuff.

Just a better pic of the Weapon select interface.

as you can see there are the slots I mentioned. You just drag any unlocked item in to a free slot on your soldier etc. So you can sort of customize your gear a bit more compared to BF2.

I'm missing like 5-6 unlocks total and 3 of them are squad leader ones, so A BIT too late Razz Dunno if I shouldn't play at all in weekend, or should play more, doubt n00b will learn to use the new weapons right away and just get killed more easily Smile

Do that, great game, 240h+ played and still good x) Money well spent and worth every penny (didn't even pay retail price).

So this or BF2? I've gone from CS to BF1942 to CSS to... well my pc has bee pretty shit for the longest time, but after some upgrades for EQ2 I thought I'd go back to my FPS roots. I loved the BF series, and really loved the DC mod for 1942, so I'm having a hard time choosing BF2 or 2142. Everyone says the unlocks are done better in 2142, but the game overall scores lower than BF2. Ultimately it should boil down to what game you'll have more fun with, and I think it'd be 2142. My main concern is if I start playing now, is it really even worth it? The FPS community is usually very unforgiving to noobs, and in a squad combat game like this, it's almost required you get in with a clan/play with the same people all the time or it won't be fun (pubbing). Also with unlocks, am I at a huge disadvantage to players who've been here for months?

Anyone who plays/played both BF2 & BF2142 maybe want to share some reasons why you've liked the games?

i can has computar?!

I'd suggest this one.. anyway, this game itself is quite forgiving (it's not CS!).. of course, it'll take you a while to get to know the maps, but it is a game you can enjoy more slowly than others (especially because you can enter a squad and just follow the leader, especially at the beginning)

I personally feel BF2142 is better than BF2 in everything: maps are better looking, the weapons feel almost the same but there's more variety, thanks to the "futuristic" theme, and it runs much smoother than BF2 on my rig. PLUS, the unlocking system feels much more rewarding.

And I'm probably going to grab this booster pack too, as it's the first one that really seems to be interesting (for maps+unlocks).. of course, ony if it's cheap.. does anyone know how much it should cost?
