I am just about to install VISTA (dual OS)
Wondering if any of you guys with 8800's have run any game/games yet with VISTA that are DX10 compatible, and if you have noticed a "BIG" difference.
My 1st thought is to try with Company of Heroes.
Anyone?

Isn't Company of Heroes as of now strictly a DX9 game and pending a DX10 patch?

Yes I have read that also somewhere. It needs a "DirectX 10 patch". But MS Flightsim 10 has DirectX-10 futures as far as I know. I have seen screenshots with and without DirectX 10 and it was amazing!

Yup seems to be correct. From "Planet COH" FAQ
"1.5.18 I have a DirectX 10 card, can I use DirectX 10 with Company of Heroes? (0 comments)
No, Vista is not available to consumers (and DX10 requires Vista), so Relic has yet to release their DirectX 10 patch. So if you've got one of the nVidia GeForce 8800 series cards which does support DX10, you'll have to stick with DirectX 9 for now."
Any other game that is DX10 ready ATM ?
EDIT! hmmm not really a "flight sim" guy me...oh well...

Looks really sweet i must say
Well 1st i will install VISTA here, then i might give FS-X a go, just to check out the graphics. I find these flight sims to...well, to fiddly with basically 100+ hot keys etc

I thought the same applied to FSX? It's not a DX10 game and again MS is gonna patch it to take advantage of DX10. Thats why the 8 series caught so much flak to begin with, its a DX10 ready card with no DX10 games on the market and at the time no Vista drivers.
I remember Hardocp doing a benchmark of FSX between the 8 series and the 1950XTX and all of it was in DX9 with pretty much no performance difference between the cards since that game is so CPU limited.

No Vista drivers for the 8800 series out yet, so don't bother.

I think someone linked everyone to the Vista drivers for the 8 series in the hardware section?

Quote: | There is no:
Powermizer page
Resolution page
TV control page
Overlay page
Control Panel takes ages to pop up. (a another install of driver has made this shorter, but still takes ages)
Resolution always resorts to 1024x768 after a Standby/Resume. |
I wouldn't call those "drivers" :/

Probably more like a early alpha of the real NVIDIA 10 series driver that should hopefully be out around the same time as Vista, but atleast the card works like it should even though the control panel is not fully finished.
(Video settings mostly but high definition is part of vista so video playback should be quite important for the 8800)

as of now I do believe no DX10 games are released yet or patches being as Vista isnt even released yet. There was a thread on this somewhere where I made the list and all to the games but I seem to not be able to find it. SO with that..here ya go..
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=77741
they managed to forget to include crysis in that list lol

Here's an interesting little interview from nVIDIA regarding DX10 and how many titles will appear.

Thats a good one.
"I think DX10 is the most important generational leap that the PC gaming has experienced for many years. It will raise the visual bar dramatically, but just as importantly it'll raise the performance bar, so that features people have been used to causing major slowdown on their system will now have little or no negative effect. This is also true of existing DX9 titles running on DX10 hardware."

Maybe DX10 won't be such a revolution like some companies want us to believe. John Carmack doesn't sound very excited about DX10:
Quote: |
GI: Are you planning on adopting DX10 for Quake Wars?
Carmack: Not for Quake Wars, for sure. It has come up as a question for our internal development projects, and we weren’t even expecting to ask that question. There’s no massive pull for me for DX10. It would be more a question of if we don’t think we’re going to get done until Vista is broadly adopted, it might just save us development and support things to say it’s a DX10 game--but there’s no huge thing where we’re dying to use any particular DX10 feature. It would just more be a question about practically, is the market there where we can write off everything else? Quake Wars is definitely not DX10.
GI: Since you’re moving ahead with the new technology within the Doom 3 engine, you’re not worried about adopting that for DX10?
Carmack: No, because the DX9 stuff—actually, DX9 is really quite a good API [application programming interface] level. Even with the D3D [Direct3D] side of things, where I know I have a long history of people thinking I’m antagonistic against it. Microsoft has done a very, very good job of sensibly evolving it at each step--they’re not worried about breaking backwards compatibility--and it’s a pretty clean API. I especially like the work I’m doing on the 360, and it’s probably the best graphics API as far as a sensibly designed thing that I’ve worked with.
