Thank You For Smoking 6/10 - Nice story, but ultimately more boring than funny.

If 'Children of Men' doesn't get the Oscar for best director/best cinematography then that proves once and for all that they are fucking meaningless bullshit vanity awards (although they are already pretty close).
I mean the continuous shots are fucking amazing, like nothing I've ever seen before.

Just finished watching "Starship Troopers Roughnecks" here, been at it since 12 a clock, thats approximately 1.36h x 6
Its really crap, cause they finish on a cliff hanger and the series was never completed. However, again for U guys that never watched it, try to get it, its bloody good for a CG animation done back in 1999.

Theres been some quality stuff out of late:
Babel - 7.5/10..All round great movie, very refreshing to see some good international storylines again. The deaf mute Japanese girl's character is very intriguing.. also seeing how each part of the story fit in with each other gradually as you watch this is great.
Harsh Times - 8/10..Christian Bale and Eva Longoria..awesome movie, raw, gritty and genuine.
Truly shows off Bale's top notch acting skills. Who would have thought a welshman could portray a Mexican doing the rounds in LA so well? Watch this, a movie to compete with other crime/drug titles like Blow and Traffic.
Salo or the 120 days of Saddom - 2/10 - Sick, sick, sick. Mentally disturbed. The only reason I watched this is because I had to write an essay on film censorship and ratings boards.
This movie was banned for a long time in many countries, see IMDB. Also it seemed to be listed on IMDB as one of the sickest movies ever made. Couldn't agree more. If anything, it provides a look at the depths of Italian fascism.
Children Of Men - 6/10 - Excellent cinematogrophy, however a somewhat monotonous onesided plot that dosn't seem to be going anywhere. Very much a Orwellesque uptodate rendition of Nineteen Eighty Four. Overhyped.
Terminator 3 - 6/10 - Found some HD x264 rips knocking about and thought I'd give this one a shot. Good movie for HD, the explosions and machines / weapons look amazing. Other than that a fairly average glorified Hollywood shooter.
Looking forward to watching these ones tonight:

Saw the good shephard as well..
Put it this way, DeNiro is not a good filmmaker, about 30 minutes more of stuff should be cut from this movie.
Was also very disappointed to see Joe Pesci having like a 4 minute minor role.
The storyline is very slow moving.. give me Munich or even Bond any day.. DVDSCR of Casino Royale is LONG DUE!!!!!!!!

You gave Children of men the same score as Terminator 3? Children of Men is art and use certain methods to achieve that. Also the premise itself has nothing to do with Orwell's sci-fi horror view, its about people how desperate they can become and how they act in situations where they have to beyond themselves to live through desperate times.
Still personal opinion all the way ofc. Still I found it to be one of the greatest films ever to be directed.

Mutantius:
I suggest you read Orwell's 1984 instead and in doing so you will find that "Orwell's scifi horror view" and Alfonso Cuarón's "scifi horrow views" are not particularly dissimilar... it portrays a totalitarian society very similar to that of the one found in Children of Men but goes far deeper;
my point being that the Orwellian influence in this movie is as clear as day.
Orwell describes the lives of two individuals who rebel against the socialist "Ingsoc" party in rule and risk their lives doing so fighting for their freedom to live a normal human life involving love and relationships with each other that have been denied to them by the laws of "The Party".. Both characters are caught commiting "thoughtcrimes" as well as other acts against the party and are exposed to extremely vivid and disturbing torture, and; in Julia's case, death.
Orwell's IngSoc is by far a more terrifying and convincing idea of "what would happen if..." than Children of Men is, which it obviously the main influence of the film.
Yes, I gave it the same score as T3.
T3 is a good honest trashy Hollywood movie. Children of Men fails to spellbind me. There are far better movies out there that are true artworks, have a look at "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0396171/). Not only does it have outstanding cinematography, but also has great acting and an actual plot, two things that Children of Men certainly dosn't..

I have read Mr. Orwell's sci-fi piece, its the bond between the two main characters and the way they explore themselves throuch romance and sex, and Winston who has a false illusion of hope in O Brien. And the essence of Orwell in general is to show how meaningless it all can become when we reach the extreme right wing system, and how the powers: Eurasia, Oceania (where Winston are located of course), And Eastasia, constantly invoke fear into its population and continuing fight to keep the morale up in the party of each country.
Orwell is widely known for his critizism towards dictatorships and extremists in politics which is also portrayed in "Animal Farm"
Children of Men has a more "mild" view upon the government (compared to 1984) and take its roots in how desperate people become when there simply aint no future left, the misuse of people in the ghettos, terrroist bombings, to misuse the new chances the humandkind may ever have. Its all portrayed much more differently then in 1984 and I would suggest you look into Alan Moore's V For Vendetta to see a much more ripped version of 1984.
And if I may add Julie didnt die in 1984 her and Winston simply rejected each other through torture and couldnt keep up their romance afterwards... And both of them then enjoys the "love of the big brother".

Blood Diamond 9/10 - fantastic cinematography, award worthy acting from Leonardo DiCaprio (he seems to have found his feet recently) and Jennifer Connelly (YAY! :hump:). One thing i dont get is the hip-hop soundtrack during the credits. I like hip hop alot but it doesnt work with the tone of this film.

Mel Gibson's Apocalypto - awesome cinematography, i don't even know how to describe the feelings from the movie! Mel is better director than an actor, and he is fuckin' great actor! =)

I wastched starship troopers toon every morning on teletoon before i left for school. It was so fucking violent and gory. Shooting those bugs and shit and the animation blew me away then! Always thought they'd re-run it. But they didn't. I miss it.
