that's what I figured anyways ... I guess I was wondering if the driver support existed anywhere ...
oh, and this is why I hate ebay sometimes ...
actual shipping cost is more like $10
there are a million more examples of people charging a fucking ridiculous amount of money for shipping ... I guess they hope someone bids without noticing ... |
actually shipping prob isnt that much, they just take some from the actual price and add it to shipping to make it SEEM like a deal but it's not. that way they don't lose money, if you want to do ATI on agp get teh 9700 PRO, very cheap. Nvidia also release the 7800GS for agp which is a bad ass and the last AGP for the system but it's a bit pricey

My video card story went as follows.
7200 -> 9800Pro -> 6800NU -> X850Pro -> 7900GT -> X1900XT
From the 7200 to the X850Pro was all within 2 months after FEAR was released. I was so disatisfied with its performance that I went on a video card upgrade spree. With the 9800Pro I had to turn shadows off and that completely kills the atmosphere of the game but depending on your expectations it might be ok. Fear leans toward Nvidia performance wise and a 6600GT can play it solidly at 1024x768.
Isn't a 7600GS much faster then a 6600GT? The 7600GS's around here are about $99.

Actually, Tom's Hardware recommends an Nvideo 6600GT as the best value for cheap AGP card, so I might go with either that one or a 9700 pro ... guess it's up to finding a good price now...
I'm actually leaning towards the 6600GT ... I've never owned anything besides ATI, but I'm not exactly a fanboy |
lol the 9600SE was special for teh fact it was special as in retarded. They took it and downclocked the hell out of it as well as the interface was downed as well, normal 9600 was 128bit and the SE was down'ed to 64 ATI is SE

ok, I found a couple in the classified ads ... both used ...
BFG nVidia 6800 GS OC 256MB AGP 8x DDR3 Video Card - $130
ATI Radeon X850 XT AGP 256MB VRAM - $100
which one is the better deal?

The X850 is no doubt a faster card and $30 cheaper but it lacks SM3 and if you've read some of the stuff in the PC section a lot of the newer games have a minimum requirement of a SM3 capable card. The 6800GS is a SM3 card but if your interests are getting the best performance in only a select number of games you like then grab the X850.
I believe the 6800GS performs in between a 6800 Non Ultra and a 6800GT. While the X850XT/PE was competing against the 6800Ultra/7800GS. Its in the top 3 of fastest AGP cards.
Me personally, I would grab the X850 to get the most out of that AGP rig, you'll have to upgrade in the future to play those SM3 games decently anyway so just get that and forget the 6800GS's mediocre SM3 performance anyway

KrAzY-KaMeL wrote: | nouseforaname wrote: | OK, one more question
Relative to the price of that ATI X850 XT 256mb @ $100, how much should I pay for a BFG Nvidia GeForce 6600GT 128MB? Half? |
For some strange reason those 6600's are still a bit pricey. Used I would say $60ish but the $100 for the X850 is a really pretty good deal considering I sold mine for $250 no more then 6 months ago haha. That 6800GS should be like $70-80 since the Ultras around here go for around $90 now. |
well right now that card is sitting pretty cheap on ebay, but no bids yet... it's local to me too, so no shipping costs. I might choose that one if I can get it for ~$50 ...
oh, and that guy actually wanted $150 for the 6800GS but said he would accept $130 ... so fuck him then
KrAzY-KaMeL wrote: | I just wish you had a PCI-Express slot, my cousin just bought a BFG 7600GT for $78 after rebate. Even better you could get a 7900GS for a little more then $100 after rebates. AGP shits too expensive. Some guy in a Ad here is selling his AGP X1950Pro which is the fastest AGP card for only $180. |
yeah, I wish I had a pci-e slot too, but anyways, I'm pretty sure that I couldn't use a US rebate coupon anyways.
oh, and that $100 CDN works out to $85 USD Also, it's around 1/2-2/3 of the price of any other X850 on ebay (after shipping and shit) ...

How much times left until the auction closes on the card? Yeah forget that 6800GS that guys insane for even thinking about $150 when in that price range it can easily get blown out the water by other cards.
Right now Im just sick of PC's. There's absolutly nothing to play as of RIGHT NOW!

there is like 4 days left ... the thing is, the other guy could sell the ATI X850 by then ... it's on craigslist ... I might have to string the guy along for a couple of days

I figure I have 2 years of games I've never played to pick from, should be lots
HL2, DOOM3, COD2, FEAR, Serious Sam 2, BiA, MoH:PA, Battlefield 2, SC:CT, company of heroes ... I'm sure there is many more.
I also realized my RAM is no longer going to cut it, so I'm going to get 1GB DDR 3200 (fastest my MB can handle) ... lol, and this compter was on its way to goodwill a week ago

Yeah thats why I wish you could get your card of craigslist instead. There are some super cheap ones people are selling.
But yeah thats true you would be putting that card to waste with your CPU.
