First off, thanks to anyone willing to help me out with this problem.

I have a cable internet connection. When it is hooked up to my computer alone, I can download around 2-300 kbps (usenet). But when it is hooked up to the router (with nothing else even connected) it slows down to a crawl -- like 30-40 kbps. I can't figure out what's going on.

The router is a linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Broadband Router. My pc is connected to one of the wired ports, and two laptops utilize the wireless ports. Comp is Windows XP SP1, AMD 2000+ if that makes any difference. I tried resetting it to the default settings, but that did shit all.

Any suggestions?

Ok, this is weird. I can connect to my router no problem through firefox, but when I try to use internet explorer it won't connect (192.168.1.1 router default address). The firmware updater only supports IE, so I can't update. Any ideas?

Thanks

My guess would be that your router's internal firewall is blocking ports used by Usenet, I suggest you google which ports are used and you open them up

should help
but updating the firmware cant hurt.... well... it could but most unlikely.
