Unbalanced? This is the sucessor to TA. What is unbalanced? Very Happy
I mean, you have a big map. Thats it. As long as you make certain that there are an equal ammount of mass deposits by each start location every single map is balanced.
If one island or whatever is 1 meter smaller, use boats, or aircraft.
Thats the beauty of SC, and the beauty of TA. Maps cant be unbalanced. As long as the resources are somewhat properly placed, the actual terrain makes little difference.

Okay if one player has only 1 entrance with huge cliffs around it, and another player is in the center completely open. But why would a map be designed like that?
They will be balanced, it aint hard to make a map balanced. Just takes like 1 second of tought before u start to build it.

Yep Smile you can always download the AI mod and play vs easy ai's, they are pretty manageable.
Im very impressed with the ai, even tough its still only trough that semi-old AI mod.

I still get my ass handed to me on Medium. I sit there and me and my ally are doing well, he is constantly launching tactical missiles at approaching enemies and i got my 3 rows of artillery turrets guarding our mutual entrance (the 2v2 desert map).
We even take out a few ufo's and sacred bots that attack. But what happens next???
The fracking enemy ai team, BOTH nuke my ally! So he's dead now, no factories and no engineers, just a few turrets!

So i sit there for literally 2 hours defending myself and building up a huge air fleet, 400 bombers so far. And the damn ai keeps pouring out units, i got the max radar so i see the entire map FILLED with units constantly flooding at my "gates" like a friggen LOTR Helms Deep scene you wouldnt believe. The action never stops for more than a mere minute or two to allow me to send out quick big parties of engineers to repair my battered turret-walls.
There are like hundreds of wrecks on the ground for kilometers in front of them.
Much of them has been taking alot of punishment, especially from his huge army of mobile missile launchers. And then he comes with 3 UFO's, at once... Needless to say i was FRACKED.
Luckily i had started to build a nuke silo and i redirected ALL my effort to completing it, while being attacked.
I got it completed, and managed to get a nuke built too, and just as i launch it at the FUCKERS base, i see 15-20 heavy air transports flying over my AA turret wrecks and artillery turret wrecks, unloading a total of, hell i dont know, 100+ units that all go for my main power complex.

Now, if you have played this or not, the thing to note is that you can make VERY interesting complexes, since the power plants and mass fabricators (uses power to make mass) etc can assist eachother, for example building power generators around a factory will lower the power cost of units, and the same when building mass fabricators around it, lowers the mass cost.
So i had a diagonal complex, a very large complex, consisting of tech 2 power plants and tech 1 fabricators all around em with tech 1 power plants in the middle of the empty space.
One thing to note, is that mass fabricators are HIGHLY volatile.. Destroy one, and anything nearby will be severely damaged, especially other mass fabricators..

So he goes straight for the complex, tucked away in the back with dual rows of tech 2 anti-air flak turrets. I can hear myself screaming "NOOO" in my brain before my conciousness realizes what is about to happen. Boom, a fabricator blows up, and within 3 seconds my entire complex has been obliderated by the sheer force wave of chained explosions.
Having a complex like that allows high mass production at much lower energy costs than usual, but the thing that auto-balances it is that, if you get a chain reaction going, you'r fucked.
My resource income drops into the -8000 for energy and -90 for mass.

Sure, the nuke fucked him up too, his entire base destroyed, except for a few turret installations (the AI's actually build small "fortresses" of turrets and walls near the front line!).
But for now, his remaining UFO's and 100+ small units rip me up in a minute. Game over.

First RTS game i've ever played where i can actually honestly sit down and say that im genuinly impressed with the AI, on Medium..
Im gonna try a game with it on the hardest setting now, im sure i will regret it.

Say goodbye to your PC's. I dunno if its my Vista installation or just how damn demanding this game is but once you get a good number of units established the game bogs down like crazy. The camera is still free to move but the units are put on pause maybe because of the needed CPU cycles or something.

Also they enemy AI, right when Im ready to launch a full blown attack send a varying monster machine that destroys any and everything I have. I just got my ass handed to me by some rolling battlestation type tank that had huge range. Once shit starts getting taken from you its very hard to recover. I need to use more Aircraft thats for sure and figure out how to build those huge things everything keeps sending at me.

This has to be one of the coolest RTS' I've ever played thats for sure. You can have a Air/Sea/Land battle on epic scales going on all at once with mayhem i've yet to see matched by another game. And this beta doesn't even provide the biggest size map I wonder how huge the 80km or whatever size it is map will be.

All in all im just too slow, the AI even on easy, micromanage a lot better then me but I'm still learning so I'll get the hang of it.

Im also running vista, and its about 5fps slower than in xp, but i only play on 4 player maps when im using AI's, since its still unoptimized beta AI's, but it never gets unplayable, except ofcourse if its against 5 or 7 AI's.

The thing i really like about this is that its physics driven, the aircraft and missiles are driven by physics instead of like just being on a railroad on the ground, just appearing to fly above it like in most games.
When they turn, they turn with physics and and yeah.. Its cool ^^

Do you have 2 gigs of ram? I have no idea what it is but the game gets to like 2Fps after the AI and I have accumulated so many units and it gets completely unplayable. There are these long pauses where the game camera is free to roam but the units just freeze as though the CPU is trying to keep up.

The latest version (.53) runs like a charm. I was playing vs 2 computers on an 80kmx80km map and had very little slowdown after nearly 2 hours. I don't even have a great system either.

3.0ghz p4 @ 3.75
1GB
6800 Ultra @ 450/1154

Running at 1280x1024 with mostly everything at medium.

Yeah I just found out the client version Im using has a memory leak as well as a huge performance hit when the Aeon Faction is used. After like 30-40 mins the game will crawl to 1fps with 1 AI and pause constantly for up to 2 minutes at a time.

I give up until the game comes out. It's unplayable.

MohoEngine.dll calls the functions available in uiutil.lua which in turn tries to execute functions from MohoEngine.dll both files and functions have changed since 3.8 so no wonder it didn't work for you.

First of all, with the 5.3 version, the AI is nice n stable. The AI 'mods' in fact do nothing more, than to re-enable the AI in the game, and the AI is also constantly being worked on, so theres a hell of a difference compared to the early version.

Not in the difficuly though. Maybe the only game where i have a hard time to beat even the easy AI.

The beta is simply amazing. I mean based on the screenshots, its just another fancy RTS. But when you are in the heat of the battle, with literally 100s of units going at eachother, artillery fire raining down on your foes bullets flying around in the most chaotic manner imaginable, you'll soon be in love with the game.

Then, when you are just about to cry out loud over your vitory, the entire screen turns white as a massive shockwave washes the remaining of your heroic defenders away, along with half of your base. Some of the destroyed buildings cause nice secondary explosions, taking out further buildings, causing even more explosions..

And just as the smoke starts to clear, you see a new wave of enemies heading towards what was once your base, clearing up the remnants of your perimeter defenses.

There is only one thing left you can do at this point. Grab your Armored Command Unit, and head out to welcome the guests yourself. In a final, heoric act of defense, you destroy dozens and dozens of enemies, but they just keep coming. You do the only thing that is left for you to do, and maneuver the ACU to stay in the middle of the enemy army.

On the final hit, the self-destruction mechanism kicks in, and the screen turns white once again. You take out the remaining enemy units but neither that, neither the fact that there is already another wave on its way matters now. You are dead. Game Over.

Or you can just press ctrl+K to self-destruct Very Happy But yeah! Luv it!
I just played a 8 player ffa on the Mars map, smooth fps all the time, really wierd lol. Sometimes smooth with 7 ai's, sometimes not.
Anyways, cant wait for the full version. 40 maps. 40 fricken maps. Pure TA style.
And a map editor included too, i have a faint memory of hearing? And then the new units from time to time. And mods. Oh joy..

I've always loved C&C, didnt like Red Alert that super much, but i really loved the whole Tiberium stuff. And seeing C&C3 screenies is like a visual orgasm, not so much due to the graphics, but due to the fact that its C&C.. With green tiberium, slowly growing until it envelops the entire planet, along with the rare blue and red tiberium, and the veins. Omg.. I loved the Firestorm expansion. I really did.

But really, C&C3 really has to be one HELL of an AMAZING fucking game if its gonna get my time when SupCom is released. I knew supcom would be great when i first heard of it, but i had no idea it was this great.
C&C3 is in deep shit if it doesnt deliver the oldschool feeling.
Same for Starcraft 2, if its even in development. Man i tell you, if they fuck up Starcraft 2, i'm gonna kill someone Very Happy

C&C 3 won't deliver the old school feeling, they messed that up time after time and it isn't even the original developers developing it today, they're at Petroglyph. Also I doubt I can ever play another RTS which doesn't have the strategic view of Supreme Commander, having to look inside that little 'box' and move your 5 units around... come on Supreme Commander with hundreds of units and viewrange as far as you want.
I've already preordered Supreme Commander, I don't think I'll even give C&C the time of day.
