Out of the blue, Dark_AleX has once again released the latest update to his 3.03 Open Edition custom firmware. And this one's a major upgrade, which means that you will have to install it the long way. And yes, the feature list has been beefed up again, with a lot of new things and updates. Without further ado, here's what's changed in the latest version:

(CHANGES)

AVC videos bitrate limit patched. The firmware limited the bitrate of avc videos to only 768 Kbps. OE now forces the limit to be 16384 Kbps. (Note: this doesn't mean than the psp can handle such a high bitrate, this means than they won't show error. I don't know which is the real maximum bitrate than the psp can handle at full speed)
Speed of OE boot is now ~3 seconds faster than previous versions. (without plugins)
CPU speed of XMB can now be changed.
Wifi can now work at 333 Mhz!
Added access to flash 0 and 1 via usb in the recovery menu, based on the great idea of USBSSS by Booster. Note that writing is enabled, so this is intended only for advanced users that know what they are doing in each moment.(It is not a great idea to change anything from the kd folder). Because of this addition, the rest of flashing options were removed.
PSP isos can now be deleted as any normal memstick games. (also the size of the iso now shows fine when you press triangle->information).
When formatting memory stick, GAME150, GAME303 and ISO directories will be automatically created!
Changes in internal HEN core:
If a EBOOT.PBP with a plain DATA.PSP had a data.psar, modulemgr took as size of the executable the size of data.psp+data.psar. Fixed. (this fix enables psx games to have plain data.psp without causing a memory error).
Added a couple of patches found by Tyranid. One allows syscalls instructions to be used in kernel mode without causing a crash. The other allows sceKernelQueryModuleInfo to work with sceInit and previous modules.

its a full flash install so you need to generate the dxar file (need 1.50 & 3.03 SCE FWs) from oeupdmaker & then flash it

Ok this might sound stupid but I downgraded my psp back in the day to 1.5 and havent really touched it since firmware wise, shall I upgrade to 3.03oe-c? I used an easy downgrader last time and it worked perfect to downgrade from 2.6 to 1.5

Is there an easy solution? or do i have to install an 3.00 firmware then install the little dark alex update 3.03oe-c?

help lol

ARRRRRRRRRRR..... DONT INSTALL ANY 3.00 FIRMWARE!!!

Now, go grab 3.03 OE C from here - http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=46034

Now you need the 3.03 and 1.50 Firmware Eboots that can be found here -

http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-3.03-PSP/pg/12/fid/11844/catid/163

and here -

http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-1.50-File-(EBOOT)-North-America-PSP/pg/12/fid/163/catid/163

now follow the readme that came with 3.03 OE C

If you get stuck let us know Smile

Just wanted to say I successfully managed to flash mine from 1.5 to 3.03oe-c just now but there were one or two hiccups

Firstly when you get those eboots you must rename them to 150.pbp and 303.pbp then when you copy those directories over to your mem stick (oedmaker and oedmaker%) you must copy those renamed eboots into the oedmaker directory in order to generate the dxar file which for me was nearly 18mb in size.

If like me you followed the readme but got a "cannot open file" when it was trying to read the 150.pbp then you probably didnt put them in the oedmaker dir instead u put them in psp/game

The readme should have been more precise but all in all DA is the man Very Happy

Oh and Steve thanks a bunch mate Very Happy

Think the biggest problem is how to overcome losing one analogue stick. Would need a re-write even if they did have an efficient method of porting the games.

Thanks for the guide btw. Flashed mine last night. The only problem I have with it is it's a bit annoying having to reset and boot into recovery mode just to change the CPU speed, but it's kind of taking the piss to even mention it, the ammount of work the guys done.

Final Fantasy 7 is awesome.

After you finish FF7 try out FF9 which is mega -I am just loving this great title Smile
I would skip FF8 as it runs very buggy on all versions of POPS - hopefulyl Sony can bugfix the necessary prx's in 3.10 or a later FW

Cheers, I got rid of my PSX before the next FF games got released so not just nostalgia, I probably missed a fair few great games. Swapped it for a Saturn with VF2.

how many games make full use of the second nub? i mean full use to the point where the game is unplayable without it.. im sure there are a number of games that could easily do without it... fighting games, racing games, rpgs? i think only adventure games and fps games (which all suck on consoles) would really require it (pc gamer apart from the psp, so no experience with the ps2)... but i think just porting SOME games would be an amazing start.

but like i said before... id be completely content if some method could be developed to provide atleast SOME antialiasing support to games - a plugin or something perhaps... how sweet would that be Very Happy

Now, when you select the memory stick under the games menu, it jumps to a sub menu listing all the games on the stick and also displays the icon and wallpaper for each game as the cursor moves over them. Much more elegant. Can't vouch for 100% compatibility but all the isos I have tested worked.
