To satisfy my gaming needs i have to get myself a good LCD TV and a chipped 360. (the last part isn't a problem)

There are lots of reviews, but none of them tells me what LCD TV is best for gaming.
I was thinking about the 32" Tatung. Heard Tatung got very good TVs.

So my question is, what 32" LCD TV for 360 gaming? Very Happy (not space for 42" Sad )

no point getting a screen with a native res higher than the 360 can output....otherwise it will get upscaled by the tv... not a good thing on most screens
get a screen that is 720p/1080i/1080p native or 1280x720/768/1024 or 1360x768 or 1920x1080
most 360 games are 720 native and are scaled by the 360 to the output res (the 360 scaler is v.good but most tv's arent) but the first 1080p native games are about to be released (nba st & v.tennis3)

hmm well only way to find out is to go to store and watch the image quality with a 360 on it...

but I would say, a good 720p screen with a high contrast should be good....

I went for a LG HD 42" Plasma Screen.. Less Ghosting, More natural looking colours, better for SD stuff and better for films when compaired to lcd

Plus you want to get a Yamaha AV59 Surround sound package to go with it Smile

plasma doesnt have a refresh rate, so as far as i know you dont get ghosting on plasmas. plus they are cheap, so you can go bigger for less cash.

however lcds give you higher resolution and better quality, plus they are lighter and dont suffer from crazy screen glare like you get on plasmas.

overall, if you have the cash, lcd is always superior.

I have a Toshiba (http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/product.asp?model=32hlv66) - nice 32", great for X360, HD video. Maybe movin' to a 42" or even a 47" by the end of the year.

Have a phillips 42" lcd here. Great tv, best picture I've seen besides the (waay overpriced) Bravia. Insane contrast ratio..like 7000:1 or something. Only negative is it isn't 1080p. But they make em. Also might try ambilight one. Shop around. Buy what looks best to you.

deelix, how far away from the tv are you going to be sitting?

because really, if you are only going to be about 2m away, you shouldn't go bigger than 37"

yeah 42" is definately too big for that ... 32" should be fine for that distance...

Plus did I forget to say the Blacks on Plasmas come up much better?? Blacks on a LCD are like a Dark grey...

Overall Its your own prefference, I had a LCD and didnt like the ghosting, the un natural colours, the blacks and the quality of Standard Def images... When playing fast paced stuff (eg Fifa 07 on the the 360 when kicking the ball) it would give motion blur.

Plasmas and LCD's both last the same amount of time (Around 60,000 hours) the differences are when a LCD dies the backlight blows and costs alot to replace, when a Plasma gets to 60,000 hours the screen has lost half its brightness. BUT you will most likely have a new TV by then anyway.

Another thing, my LG Plasma weighs 22kg where as the LG LCD weighs something like 32kg so Plasma is lighter than LCD when it comes to LG Smile

Overall its your own choice, If you have direct sunlight in the TV area all the time go with LCD, if not, go with Plasma.

I strongly suggest you visit this forum first before buying -
http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php

and Also have a look at this artical by Panasonic (a company that makes both LCD and Plasma) -
http://www.panasonic.co.uk/technology/plasma-or-lcd.html

It's all in the quality of the monitor you are getting. There are plenty of LCDs out there with no problems with black color, ghosting, or otherwise.

Compared to Plasmas, modern LCD's are lighter (my 32" Mirai is 15kg), have a slightly longer life span, do not suffer from burn-in, use less electricity (less power needed to light each individual cell), have 176 degree viewing angles and come in varying sizes < 32".

LCD's 4 teh w1n \o/

Modern Plasmas dont suffer from burn in Wink... my LG has features to stop burn in including a pixel orbiter and even if I do get screen burn (which is highly unlikely) it has features to remove it (White wash and colour inverter etc)

I was also a LCD fan like all you untill I got this LG Plasma, Now I will never go back Smile... Currently watching the Terminator Trilogy on it and it kicks ass!!! (Plasmas are much better for watching movies on as well)

The 360 in HD on my Plasma looks great, overall If I had to choose again Plasma or LCD, I would be going for another Plasma.

Also, going to a store and looking at a screen is pointless realy because A) The Signals fed to the TV Sets is usually crap, B) They are never Properly Setup, C) A shop is much bigger than what your room at home is and D) the lighting in a shop is much differetn to at home.

Either way its your decision but have a look into them 2 sites first.

I've never heard of tatung, but they do seem to be using decent chips (Trident's SVP EX integrated 10-bit video decoder and processor featuring the Digital Cinema Reality Engine (DCRe)), the same as some name brands (samsung)...

http://www.digitalmediaasia.com/default.asp?ArticleID=6945

can you find that tv in a store near you? nothing beats actually looking at the tv in person before buying it Smile
