I have a question. What do you do with these stupid love songs. Pull them out just before you make your move? And why even go through the trouble because you will probably get it anyway. Or it could totally backfire and made the person think you really like them and they start to stalk you or something. The metal ones are ok if the lyrics aren't sappy.

you're quite right there. Still a remember some songs that really remind me of some place, person or time. I refer to these which remind me of a certain person as love songs, even if i do not see that person anymore.
On the other hand there are some great songs (better said albums) for making out or more (e.g. all of the Air albums)
And for the Metal thing - there are some great metal ballads like Nightwish - Beauty and the beast or Sonata Arctica's - White pearl, black ocean.

'love-themed' songs can also come in useful if you're already in a relationship, not just trying to pick someone up ... you know, like making a mix cd of love songs as a v-day gift or some shit like that
as to the original question, foo fighters - everlong is a pretty good non sappy love song as well
One more Awesome Savage Garden song (to the moon and back)
Strangely i haven't heard of Savage Garden in a while. Anyone knows what they're up to ?
Not that i particularly like them but some songs really were CLASS (i like that term .. thanks above).
