I have used it for 2-3 years and at $4 bucks a month I think it is well worth it.
You aren't paying to leech shit, you're paying for a quality service that makes the whole Usenet experience far better. You can use the other free indexing services but you are going to spend more time finding what you're looking for with a worse interface.
With something like binaries.nl you are stuck with a shitty interface and have to click each file you want to add to an nzb. With newzbin most whole posts are clumped together for 1-click easability. If a post isn't clumped together already then there is a 'smart' feature that allows you to see related files and you can just click that, review it and make the nzb.
With newzbin v3 (still in progress but usable) you can tag multiple clumped posts toa dd to 1 nzb. Lets say I want to download 20 episodes of "the unit", I just search for the unit, look through all the pre-clumped posts and check all the episode I want to download, then I just "make nzb" and wham I just added 20 episodes to newsleecher in about 25 seconds, plus there is the ability to download the nbz zipped, so if you are making a large nzb (20 episodes might be a 10mb nzb..) you can download it compressed, and as nzb files are raw text they compress quite nicely.
With binaries.nl you would be lucky if that took you 15 minutes.
But time is money, and the time I save with Newzbin is well worth the $4 a month.

Not with such ease. Besides at 25p a week Syn, you'd be a mug not to use it. I'd pay 10 times that as the files are hand picked by a bunch of great editors.

What free alternatives are you talking about btw? I personally love using newzbin, its nzb files are excellent - but I wouldnt mind having optional pages.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

i use FTD, simular to newzbin only not via webpage, but via an application. And its free. Besides that, there are like 3 a 4 indexsites where you can search a release and select the files you want and save them as .nzb.
No need for newzbin. |

my cousin uses newsbin basically its a nice service.
if your ISP allows binaries at least(i wouldn't pay for a newsgroup provider).
and from what he told me has has 8 weeks access for 5 euro or so

Thats what I use already, its more for the none "OMG THIS HAS JUST BEEN RELEASED FOR THE FIRST TIME" uploads.. things that wont be published on NFO sites but that I may be interested in.. like older movies and such..

that's why i use FTD.
like i said before, simular to newsbin.com only works with an application. And its 100% free while it doese exactly the same.
bad thing its dutch only. |

Well, Most of the "older/nonscene" things that are posted on newzbin can be found easily in binsearch (my experience) I normally try and add more keywords. NTSC/PAL, The year of the film/game/song. etc.
I mean if its something really rare, Then maybe newzbin (membership) would be the better choice, However they can barely keep up with the new posts. So I would be surprised if they had any of the older/rarer stuff.
You could give it a try for a bit I guess see how it works out, But I see no point in it myself. I can do the same thing using binsearch and for free.
Edit :
I should also say that binsearch only indexes 500 groups(default) If you are looking for the less common groups tick where it says "search other groups" (6000+) then search what you want.

you can only get FTD uploadz in there and also all these uploadz are in Newzbin with imdb linkz and stuff.
Ftd is like %1-4 of Whole usenet. and also newzbin v3's usenet search system is very good that opposes easynews search.

Yeah, I looked it up and found only a dutch version.. it looks pretty usable though.. you think I could survive without knowing any dutch?

Once I went to newzbin search engine, I never turned back. Best 25cent a week purchase. So much easier to use .nbz files. You wont regret it. Team it up with the program 'newsbin pro' - you are golden. Life isnt the same without the two.
