So is the old lady April? Scratch Head

Some say "maybe" but Ragnar has done his best to keep her identity a secret, which stands to reason that if we ALL thought the obvious and believed that Lady Alvane is April, the truth would actually be something else.

The German release of TLJ mistranslated and they call Lady Alvane "April" but Ragnar has denied it.

Been trying to play this and have reached chapter 3 now. Loved dreamfall, but this one is a bit more challenging to like. So much childish nonsensical dialogue at times and i've got trouble liking this rebel like teen, April. It's really a shame because Dreamfall is such a good game.

It gets better once you get out of Stark or what the area was called (Was that the world? or the city? Newport?) but yeah early on there's a bit of that as you deal with Zack (Or what his name was.) and some other people (Cortez for example.) although eventually you progress further towards Arcadia with the occasional visit back but it was so long ago I played it so I've forgotten much of the game.
(Plus it was a pretty poor Swedish dubbed version far as I remember, not too common with dubbing here from what I know other than EA Sports and a few others.)

The Longest Journey was a very good classic adventure game with challenging puzzles. Dreamfall was just a cinematic dialogue-driven adventure with only 5-6 puzzles based on almost the same mechanic. Two completely different games imo.

I loved April and almost all of the chars in the game, but maybe because the polish dub cast made such a great job !

Keep going!
I once tried The longest Journey a few years back and quit after a few hours because the beginning is rather dull.
Last year, I gave it another shot and eventually fell in love with it. You have to give the game a few hours to warm up. I think it's way better than Dreamfall.

TLJ is gaming history. Its one of the best in its genre. My only problem with it is that I just couldn't wrap my mind around some of the puzzles; as in I couldn't figure them out, and when I eventually caved and looked it up, the solutions didn't really make sense to me at least.

I understand that your main problem is the somewhat childish dialogue but you also found the puzzles more challenging (that's why I mentioned the word "mechanics") and you compared this one with the overrated Dreamfall.

"Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Fantastic adventure game. Has the best story and characters I've ever seen in the genre. The gameplay is pretty good overall but I agree with this statement from a few posts above...

I'd say there was a mix of very good puzzles and a few non-sensical. In the gameplay department I think Broken Sword series (particularly 1-2-5) can't still be beaten in my book. But I've yet to play other classics like Syberia series and Monkey Island.

Anyway, I will be playing Dreamfall soon, from what I've read I can expect lacking gameplay but a fantastic story, I think I can be ok with that. Then I guess I'll finally get Chapters pretty cheap on the winter sale with hopefully all episodes already released Smile

I read that the developer plans to make the true sequel to TLJ called "The Longest Journey Home" right after finishing Chapters, as they consider both Dreamfall games to be spin-offs and not sequels. I wonder if that is still on plan?

Coudln't agree more.

The longest journey is a masterpiece, played it a few years ago and fell in love.

Only a few of the puzzles are bad. Then again im into P&Cs and the twisted logic comes naturally to me.

I tried dreamfall recently, but there was a stealth bit with a security droid, you will recognise early in the game that was so terribly designed gameplay wise that I couldn't do it, and stopped playing altogether.

I'll give it another go in the winter.
