Yeah, the units are much too small. Even to the point where you actually have to put in a little effort to locate them.
Also no mouse sensitivity option for scrolling the screen.... only mouse wheel sensitivity for zooming.
I'm really hoping this game becomes amazing at some point, i'll give it a fair go, but I honestly doubt it will.
Just the static viewpoint and the look of bases is enough to put me off. And i'm running max detail@1280x1024.
Also, you can only select game speed in the game as there is no menu option for it. And what is a good speed for the game? I feel +0 (default) is tragically slow, but _1 and higher make some of the units move at rediculous speeds.
There has to be a middle ground where this game looks and plays fantastically.

Is it moddable? I know of a few games that have become much better after the modding community was finished with them.

Me on the other hand it's totally vice versa of your situation. I was a die-hardcore-PC-fanboy and though consoles were shit (which they were up until this generation). Now I have realized consoles are great for gaming, but enough about that

Why are everyone whining about SC all the time?! Its a great game, and the hud isnt very big, unless you play at 1024x768 or something! And also, the HUD is very easy to mod!
So how about this? STOP FUCKING WHINING! If you dont like the game, fine, but dont annoy others with it.
If you like CoH so much, just go play that, and let the real rts fans play the good games. Nuff said..

every game can be better.
But saying this game shit aint anywhere near close.
Im getting sick of the new RTS games that dont require base building or resource styles... it gives u a extra angle to the game..
For example you can strat target the resources so u have to strat defend them aswell
And in this game you can for example setup transport ferrys.. eg set up factorys to build X unit.. and make your transports auto pick them up and transport them to the front line...
+ having good Air + Sea + Land power makes a nice full on war game.
This is the best lan game in a long long time in this genre (Base building RTS).

The main commander can construct tech 1-3 and experimental. Just go into upgrades and check the arms. The one to the right should have the tech-thingy upgrade.

The last few pages are full of bitching from people who obviously are not statisfied with the game. I did always find it interesting, why people find the urge to jump into the thread of a game, and start to argue with those who love the game about how the game they love sucks.
Its highly subjective. If i like SC and you dont, i'll not change my mind just because you say it sucks. The only thing you achieve is to annoy me. Even worse, by reading all the 'fanboi' posts, the hater gets annoyed as well.
Whats the solution? Since you can't expect those who love a game not to discuss it and since they can only reasonably do it in the thread of the game, the fanbois can't really 'leave' to avoid the conflict.
Haters however can. If you hate the fuc*ng game, then get the f*ck out of its thread and everyone will be happy.
You will not be annoyed by the fanboism, and we will not be annoyed by the jackass styled comments of the haters. I know that freedom of speech and blah blah everybody is entitled to an opinion, but tell me what good it is to get onto eachother's nerves? Noone cares about your opinion expect those who think like you do. Since in a thread like this you will find more fanbois than haters, its fairly certain that posting crap about the game will annoy quite a lot of people, and only cause massive disagreement. Let's be reasonable please.
SC is a good game. Its not Warcraft where you have your one man armies called heroes. Its not CnC where you have your 5-5 nicely drawn - oh so detailed - units for the two sides in the game. Its not Total War, where much effort was put into representing the colorful ancient / medieval warfare down to the last detail.
SC is SC. A successor of TA, which also had generic units. There is no point in having insane unit detail, when most of the time you'll be looking at the units from the bird-eye iconic perspective. You also can't expect insane variety of units from a game, where every one of the races have more units than most RTSes have alltogether.
About the UI:
1) It can be modded and will be modded im sure.
2) Now big it is, thats highly subjective
If you play on dual monitors, then you got almost twice the useful screen area than what most other games can get you. Funny how we finally get a game that supports dual monitors (really.. show me another game that does this, expect maybe the various flight sims)
and then people start bitching about how big they feel the UI is.
There are games released that have far bigger problems than a big UI on release, or that the units are too generic. The sad truth is, that even if there would be a perfect game out there, you would find something to be bitching about in that as well.
Get a life damnit.

sweet times of glory for adventure games that was ^^ so few years larter everythibng has changed... but TA did not. this game looks like TA few years back... camera rotation under space key and then rotating back is one big misunderstanding... HUD... HUD sweet HUD.... its like super secret enemy weapon to distract their enemy... and why the heck game is slowing so badly after few minutes of play when game screen is sooooo smallll.... even videos on gamespot are streaming in bigger picture <_< first thought when i started playing was... errr is it 90's again? its total annihilation 3 and nothing more... except that units looks like ants in pants. m'kay when u play, zoom and rotate it looks fine but when in battles... good old TA... but since i loved TA... dunno... probably i will love SC... but hey! there is not any rts release before C&C3 
think about the consequence RTS HUD will be big ass in every game 
... its just like with DUNE 2 the first RTS hud and every one used it , then came Spacecraft and again after this game every other RTS had the same HUD and now 
Don't know why yuo all whine (except for poor performances).
