When i run the game,i get a goofy red and black screen,and i can hear the background music,but when its supposed to show the menu,it crashes to desktop with this error message:Can’t find background image ‘materials\console\menu_3d.vtf’
It's weird because,I've checked,the file is there,so I don't understand what's wrong
I've been through the net,and i haven't anyone with the same problem,so have mercy
Help!

tried reinstalling the game?

That's the thing I forgot to mention,the game was already installed when i got it,the data was just copied from someones hard drive onto 2 dvd-s and then copied onto my hard drive,the game works on the other pc but it doesn't work on mine,
also,this obviously makes the game unpatchable,because the patch thinks the game hasn't been installed(which it hasn't),i think this has something to do with the registry,but i have no idea what to do

Get the proper installation of the game. The exe might check for some install entries.
