scorsese did not in any way shape or form deserve to win, and neither did the departed... just shows how much of a farce the oscars are.. no wonder i dont watch that rubbish.

however, glad to see Whitaker win... hes definately someone who deserves it.

No Oscar for Dicaprio Sad

But you are right. The Departed was a good movie, but it doesn't even come close to being the best movie of the year...

Exactly, I thought that deserved Best Achievement in Directing. It has kind of been a tradition seeing Scorsese NOT get one anyway - when you know he deserves a lifetime award.

Oscars seem to 'pay' their long due debts...

Russell Crowe made a fantastic acting in The insider and didn't get any Oscar. Next year, they paid him off with Gladiator. Although, I would like them to wait and give it to him next year, for A beautiful mind acting. Same story with The Hurricane and Denzel Washington. Missed a year or two and finally got it.

This shit never stops..

Last years best film is easily "Das leben der anderen", it's cool that it won the foreign award. I thought that Pan's Labyrinth would win that.

Children of Men should've got the Best Cinematography award. Labyrinth is awesome but CoM definitely has better cine with that unedited 12 min single shot scene inside the car with Julianna Moore getting killed. I got myself a DVD with the 'making of' - it's awesome what they did there - no blue screen, no cgi.

Uhm, that scene with the car is NOTHING compared to the scene inside the refugee camp!

the scene in the refugee camp is more spectacular visually, but the car chase is much more complicated and harder to shoot because the camera was inside the car, speeding around on special rails for 12 (twelve minutes). and this had to be synched with glas breaking, shots, the burning car coming onto the road exactly when it had to etc. etc.
that's why they dedicated the documentary to this scene and the one with the exploding cafe

I really don't think the Departed should have won a writing award, but sure, give scorsese his directing award already

about best picture, well, I liked the Departed and Little Miss Sunshine. Both were better than 'Crash' anyways, and that won this award last year

CoM should have won best cinematography

Pan's Labyrinth should have won best foreign picture

I totally agree. The Departed was enjoyable but it was just another mob film. Compared to Donnie Brasco it was mediocre.

Marky Mark getting a nomination for the Departed was the final nail in the coffin for any respect I had left for Oscars. He is such a horrible actor and has no range. He is only acceptable and can only act in very specific roles. His acting in The Departed reminded me of the bad acting his "Dirk Diggler" detective character did in the porn films portrayed in Boogie Nights.

Babel or CoM deserved best picture much more!

Just also wanted to add that I am tired of glorified television movie of the week Bio pics being recognized by Oscar.
