UBI has been absolutely pathetic supporting their PC games lately. Not going to buy this one and will use the usenet option Smile

There is a HUGE! community of moders for the SH series, especially for SH3. They turned it in to a "NEW"! game, believe me. If you are in to realism or just some fast "U-Boot" action, running SH3 with for example the GWX mod is pure penis Razz Not to mention the amount of skins (Boot, crew, environment, flags etc) + all the sound mods you ever wished for. I now listen to the "Radio" with original ! recordings of "Kriegsradio" in German or in English as it happens in the game (date and year etc) Watch the film "Das Boot" and then play this...man! I never seen a sim come so close to what it might have been actually being there...

Yeah... but I really wanted to figure out the shooting for myself. just didnt feel like I was doing much with the auto stuff.
It really looked like a fantastic game and right up my alley, I was just too stupid for it.

I will give SH4 a go as well though... Razz

You bet Razz Got about 6-7 documentaries (films) on the subject, some books etc. And all in just under 3 weeks...mad I say. But when U get in to it, its a fascinating read/watch/game play.

The sub Aces and the tactics and daring of these guys, the total horror of being deep charged in the middle of the Atlantic, 30.000 of 40.000 never came back, thats the biggest loss of any military branch in history, it is totally interesting I tell you.

I also started to watch " Station X" a documentary about cracking the "Enigma" encryption machine witch eventually won the Atlantic war to the Allies...and the war in general actually. Anyhow....yep I got the SH bug, virus, bacteria...what have you, and I got it bad Wink

Cox as you seem to be into SH series , i got a few questions .

I also have interest in the WW2 area , and love movies like Das Boot and the many documentaries ....

When SH3 came out i was playing many other games and never got around to get SH3 , now with SH4 comming out soon i still i want to check out SH3 cause of the possibility to play the german side .

Is the standard game worth playing ? what about the expansionpack ? what mods are a must have and finally what about starforce ? i heard so many doomstories about it i just never installed any starforce games , i know at least the latest update has cracked exes .

thanks !

@CaptainCox Is the music in the video you linked to on Youtube official in-game music? If its not, where does it come from? Especially around the 5 minute mark of the video, very Bombastic and Hans Zimmer like...fuckin beautiful. I must have it Very Happy

Edit: Track actually starts at about 2:58 and continues on to the end....this has to be a Zimmer piece..someone tell me what movie its from...going nuts!

WOW! a lot of questions. I will do my best...

1. GET IT! its worth every Kbit
There is a "Crack" that does all patches and Mods, find it at "Game Copy World"

2. Official Patch 1.4b, you need it to run GWX!!! get it here PATCH 1.4b

3. GWX, simply the best SH3 Mod out there, get it here LINK TO GWX

4. Get the "Generic Mod Enabler" this allows you to add MOD's "the easy way"
I run this myself "screen from Generic Mod Enabler"
get it here LINK

5. Skins, Sounds and just cool stuff, get it here LINK to U-Boot Realsimulations Go to "UBRS DLC" its all categorized!

6. "SH3 Commander"
Quote:
SH3 Commander also extends Silent Hunter III by giving your Commander a true identity. SH3 Commander builds a full profile of your Commander, including date and place of birth, enlistment date, promotion dates, and other key attributes, which are all including in the Personnel File feature.

Get it here LINK

7. "Sh3Gen"
Quote:
Sh3Gen is an external patrol engine for Silent Hunter III. It is reading and analyzing the main application files, adds historic and geospatial data and writes back an updated patrol information into a savegame. The new information shows up on reload of the savegame, in the ingame map and wardiary.

Get it here LINK

8. This is some stuff that I have done Wink

8.1. Load Screen "Erich Topp U-552"

Get it here Erich Topp U-552 LOAD SCREEN

8.2 Level Load Screen "Erich Topp U-552"

Get it here Level Load Screen Erich Topp U-552

Both these files should be copied over to C:/Program files/ Ubisoft/SilentHunter III/Data/ Menu/Loading
If you want to keep the original data...(its pretty tacky in my opinion) rename these files "Intro" to "Intro1" and "SingleMission" to "SingleMission1" before copying over my files, then you can always rename them back later if you don't like mine, don't think you will but Wink

9. This is something I did today, and it replaces the "Logo" intro film with something I did in Adobe Premiere (1st time I used it) its pretty cool I think. Or just DL it and watch in WMP. Get it here INTRO MOVIE U-552
Copy it to here C:/Program files/ Ubisoft/SilentHunter III/Data/ Movies/Intro
Rename the Original from "Logo" to "Logo1" just in case you don't like mine, again I think you will not revert back but Wink

That's about it i think...You are now ready to enter the world of Torpedoes and Deep Charges...ROYAL STYLE!. Again the best SIM!!! I played ever.

Happy hunting "Herr Kaleun" Wink

The original soundtrack to the game, composed and played by Rod Abernethy and Jason Graves of the Rednote Audio studio. These two artists, often praised for their film and game music, have recorded twelve tracks lasting over 40 minutes altogether. A great way to plunge back into the atmosphere of the troubled Pacific Ocean!

I can't believe this.

I tried ordering Silent Hunter 4 Deluxe Edition from the Ubisoft.com store.
The game is 50E, + 25E for fucking shipping to the US (no other options) + a 17.5% VAT Tax.
Fuck me sideways. I'm all for supporting the sim. developers, but at a total of 85 Euro, thats a bit much Sad

Hopefully someone rips the soundtrack cd....

NP, enjoy.
I just remembered one more thing you could look at .
Its a MOD for the MOD sort a, its based on the GWX and made by a guy called "Carotio"
He has compiled some new stuff to make "GWX" a bit more fun. Its called GWX-TA
Find it here LINK
You still need the GWX "main" mod for it to run. As there was a patch just released for GWX, Carotio needs to update hes mod to suit. He is still beta testing as it says on hes site. I did not get it as of yet , but will try it out when hes done Beta testing. But I can recommend hes sound mod "GWX-TA1.0_Sound Pack" its an incredible collection of "authentic radio recordings" from the period, both German and English. This you can activate withe the "Mod Enabler" and listen to it on the on board "Gramophone" for that 1941 atmosphere Wink

Hey CaptainCox....have you ever run across a dilemma like this before....

I was doing the torpedo exercise exam (still trying to get manual inputs down), lined up and hit the central Tramp Steamer center keel with a magnetic set to 1m below the waterline. It started up its engines and sped away. I return to the spot later, and it just sat there dead in the water, half sunk but still afloat unable to move. I advanced time roughly 4 hours, same result.

I then spent the remainder of my torpedoes trying to sink that motherfucker, but every single one bounced off or failed to detonate. The problem was I had no idea exactly how far below the waterline it rested, and evidently was unable to guess the proper depth to get them to detonate. What do I do in a situation like this? Razz Deck gun wasn't an option btw.

And I still for the life of me can't get down perpendicular intercept courses.....god I feel like a fuckin idiot Razz

Here's a link to the SH4 Battle-theme MP3 ripped from Official Gameplay Trailer 2 - Click

Can't wait to hear the rest of the score...truly epic imo.

Hmmm...that sounds pretty weird to me. Try with 2 "Aale (German slang) =Torps" in GWX the "hits" are a bit more realistic hence it takes a while for the ship to sink unless you hit an ammo dump in the section of the ship, then its WHOOOOOMP! but I have have seen ships I hit with one "Aale" in a convoy and it has sunk hours later when i was already safe and heding for home.

And as a general rule never fire an "Aale" under 300m, I would say 700- 1000 is safe and 500 is OK. Under 300 the fuse will not go active "safety first" Wink
