Well hello there, finally i decided to buy an HDTV, probably last one who doesnt have it. Bought an x360 and tried to play it on a standard TV, my god, it looked terible, had to buy VGA cable to play it on my monitor. I know very little about HDTV, so do i need a special hdtv box of somekind from my cable provider to watch it as a TV (my cable provider is COX btw) and how much is it (this question is mainly to whoever has their services too). Also what brands would you recommend, sony, toshiba, panasonic, or whatever and what good sites you konw of? I was looking at newegg, they have a good selection of tvs, but there are thousands of them. I am probably gonna buy an LCD HDTV, max of 37". Any other advices before buying it? TY.

so yeah, you need a HD digital terminal (you can either rent or buy) ... there is a pricing thing on that website ... there is an alternative (CableCard), but that's more of a USA thing .. they only use cable boxes in Canada...
about the brand, just google whatever one you're looking at, any decent model should have plenty of reviews. but really, you should check out a best buy or something and actually see how the picture looks.

Thanks man, im actually going to best buy tomorow to see how they look, but still i think newegg seems cheaper so im gonna compare prices. I do live in USA, so i'll call cox and ask them about this cable card. Ty

you should make sure to check out the standard definition picture quality on the TV... it can range from terrible to good .. and since there is still soooo much TV still being broadcast in SD, you should make sure that it looks OK.
A good TV makes all of the flaws in standard defn way more obvious, but depending on the type of upconverting chips in the TV, it can either look decent enough, or like unwatchable shit. most high defn TVs will all show high definition and look great, it's all in how they handle SD or regular old DVDs.

Hmm, very good point. I guess i gotta talk to the guys at bestbuy about that, would be a waste if it only looks good when playing dvds or just xboxing. So when an HDTV plays SD, does it have black bars on the left and right or does it stretch the picture?
