I've come across a few troubles with this game burned on traxdata 2.4 +DL, There is some pretty heavy screen tearing in places for me, I've had stuttering in various scenes, Stuttering was so bad in one scene i had to eject the disk and close again for it to carry on, There is a part where you go across a bridge but there is a save point at the start of the bridge, I walked into the save point pressed R1 black screen came up and froze, I had to turn it off this time, No ejectin would work, Anyone else had any problems with the dvd9 version?

You lucky guys....the game does not boot at all on my ps2.
What should i do?
I have a Pal PS2 with a Messiah (not sure if it can read DVD9 but i thought i got one game to run a few months ago) and a NEC3500 Burner.
I set the Booktype setting in Nero to DVD-Rom and burned the image but it does not boot. Tried the patch and several DVDs....nothing!
Is it possible to get this game to work with my system? Don`t wanna spend more money for nothing!!!!
Or is my downloaded image broken? NO errors when unpacking it.
And no....i don`t want to play the DVD5 version!
Please help me!

messiah 2 ntsc ps2 v4
patched with toxic
pio 111 burner, imgburn verbatim dvd+r dl burned 2.4x
Treasure- credits working
My ps2 does struggle booting, takes maybe 3 tries to get it to boot, can really hear the lazer strugling. The old girl has held up well, but i think the dl really taxes the laser, although it boots dvd5s no problem.
So if it doesnt boot on yer first try, try turning off and on again few times.
btw does credits working gurantee no crash later?

I followed djcyrax's instructions, burned it on a regular 4.7GB DVD+R with a non-DL burner, tried running it with my duo2 chip, and it works similarly to how some people have stated above.
The game works, but trying to show the credits makes the PS2 hang. I expect I'll run into similar issues with crashing some ways into the game as well. It should work for now though, I'll subscribe to the notion of playing along to shorten the time until a proper DVD5 gets out or until European release of the game. I'm going to buy it either way, just sucks having to wait an extra month.
-- And as an addendum, this game is an orgasm on wheels. Haven't gotten that many hours into it yet, but it hits the ground running and doesn't slow down. Condolences to those who have yet to find a way to get it to work, but trust me, it's worth the wait and every penny.

burn on dvd9
load SM disk
jam in dvd loader
do a TOC refresh with a DVD9 game
play game.
rebuilding only builds the first layer until a solid DVD5 rip is rlsd its either play the 1st layer and wait for a rip to finish the game or use SM if ou have a dvd9 game and hope the layer change freeze doesnt happento you
Seems the lasyer break is giving people headaches who are using optimal. Would be better if there was a wa we could tell what sector the original layerbreak occured

I found a DVD5 version called "god of war 2 shasso-zamalek". Does it playable? Will it crash whenever reading the 2nd layer data?

TOC refresh with DVD9 wont work it only refreshes layer0

If someone could post the original layer break if they have the original, Just put the game into your drive, Start up imageburn, Scroll the window down to Layer Information: and it should have something like this Layer 0 Sectors: 1,943,104 (50.83%), Just copy and paste that here if they could, Then i'll burn a new copy and try it.

2048 bytes in a sector
Layer1 is 3.97gb or 4,267,802,624 bytes
so 4267802624 /2048 = 2083888 sectors in L0 that should put PACK2.PAK on L1 where it is supposed to be theorectically

I take it you worked that out yourself? and you dont have the original, If someone has the original please post the layer break so we can be 100% sure.

I patched with toxic, burned using cloneCD like with a 360 disc. Media used Verbatim DVD+r DL. Works like a charm. I'm up to the bit with the doors with a medusa head on em and you have to use the golden fleece gizmo.
Possibly the best game I've played ever (since 1), I'm having way more fun than I did recently with Ghost Recon AW2.
This would make a hell of a current gen game, I'd consider buying a PS3 for that.

well ive been looking at this (ive made my own rips before) so here's the rub
once the .paks are extracted there's 2.22gb of .PSW files and 2.50 gb of .PSS files. There.s no bonus movies on the disk except for PART2-0-BONUSCREDITS.PSS (which is 116mb) a meathod of backing this up would be to dummy and relink the PSW files and downsample the .PSS vids around 30%. But here's the problem PSSdown (both versions) arent liking these .PSS files at all neither is PSSPlex. There's some talented coders in the scene i'm pretty sure its possible for a GOW2 movie downsample tool to be released. Or for a grp to make their own and just release the rip
Second thing by reading the TOC the structure has liniarity and it seems te end of PART1.PAK and the beginning of PART2.PAK overlap co its likley possible to split the release over 2 DVDs modifying the GODOFWAR.TOC and adding the files needed to make a custom DVD2
3rd option iws to rip all the PSS and PSW files relink them and have a game with no story..which in this particular case is a big no no.

Ok I patched it with the Toxic patcher and burned it with ImgBurn 2.2.0.0 and the calculate optimal layer break setting on a Verbatim DVD+R DL (MKM-001-00), booktype DVD-ROM. So far it works fine on my old V3 with Magic 3.1 and the credits movie in the treasures menu plays without a problem. I hope the whole game will work.

Plays perfectly fine, just checked.
My PS2 is old as the hills, think I bought it on day of release and the chip if I'm not mistaken is a messiah

"god of war 2 shasso-zamalek" torrent is 3.90gb, does this mean it was burnt only first layer of the game? If so, it shouldn't be uploaded.

To get DVD-ROM booktype on DVD+R and DVD+R DL you need to crossflash your Pio 108 to Piodata 108. Follow the instructions on http://tdb.rpc1.org.
