Yeah, most likely. UVA seems like a nice university, heard a lot of good things about it.
And thanks, Nouseforanam! And I assure you, lots of cops do! I don't think many enjoy handing out tickets to teenagers for bicycling without lights on, it's just they don't get to pick their tasks.

Praetori, out of curiostiy, how old are you?
As for the tests, ginge they're a piece of piss. I know someone who's become a constable and they only got 4 GCSE's, they're not very intelligent by anyones standards. Now, to become an officer, those tests are hard, but worry about that when the situation arises.

I think you cannot compair those tests since england probably has others than the netherlands.

Nah. I've lived there for 10 years though.
@AnimalMother - I'm 18. Yeah, I'm rather young, I know. By the time I finish the course I'll be 24, though.
@TheSaint - You're right. They're very difficult in the Netherlands. Most people don't get in on their first try - I'm surprised I got as far as I did.

It's the same way in America. You're watching too many movies if you think that shootings are a normal occurrence in the US. Most gun violence is directly related to our government's fanatical war on drugs.

Wow nothing personal against any of you guys but i HATE people who say things like "well I have no future, I should become a cop"
The way I see it, there are 2 kinds of cops... ones that always wanted to be cops, gear everything towards being a cops, stay on the right path, get their education and join the force...
and then there are the other kind... the ones out of high school or maybe college who see no immediate future ahead of them, the jobs they can get suck and they think " hmmm, what can I do that seems easy to get into, isn't boring and pays well.... POLICE" these groups of people very rarely get on the force.
I don't know about other countries, but in Canada, although we have a huge need for officers, getting on is still very tough... aside from the physical aspect (peel, OPP and RCMP have some TOUGH physical tests) you have the math, English, pattern recognition, spatial imaging, conductive reasoning, and many other kinds of mental tests... once passed, you take a written portion, essay style where you reconstruct a jumbled up crash into a coherent accident report. Sounds easy but the time limit and their level of strictness puts pressure on you (which it is suppose to do) AFTER that, the background begins, they go over to your middle school teacher and school mates, then to your high school, college.. Talk to your teachers, class mates, room mates, principle... then to all your jobs, friends, neighbors, come to your home to inspect it...
At this point they check your records. Credit, driving, and criminal...
once cleared, THEN you go through the psychology test... i don’t remember how many questions... I do remember the written test being 3.5 hours and it TOOK 3.5 hours... then you talk to a psychologist...
After these if you pass , then you have a meeting with a few (sometimes one) board members who grill you for an hour or so about anything that was fishy in your background packet.
To even advance past the written and physical parts you better have university or college experience and some good job history and make sure to tack on some volunteer hours too... give blood maybe and all that.
After that, IF you get in (1500 apply yearly to metro police, 135 get on) then you have the 4-6 months of training.
Anyway point being... people who have always wanted to be cops, prepare correctly for all this and when the time comes they are ready. the people who just wanna become cops for the hell of it, either never make it or have to make huge drastic changes in their life styles and waste a few years (to fix records, get job experience , get in shape or get more education) to get on the job... if they get on that is. and when they do, it is SO clear who has the right stuff to be a police officer and who hasn't and those who shouldn't be a police officer in the first place usually don't mix well with others.
bah I went on another one of my rants...
anyway, do as you please, I can't change your mind or anything, but now you know how it is in Canada.
