I was probably the only one who played it without ANNOYING bugs that were affecting gameplay in even a slightest way.

How the game does widescreen. No wonder I have had the feeling of being cramped and always wanting to zoom out a bit. FOV is actually worse playing with a ws monitor. |
Gah!! Not that TOO. Im so glad i didnt order it, the first comments made me think this game would acctually be really good, but the more i read.. I mean it doesnt even seem to have a free roaming world like they promised, the thing i looked forward to the most (being a person who enjoys exploring in games and almost sees it as a "must" in RPG-FPS-games).
Still 8 hours to go before it's DL'ed lol (currently away atm and using a _really_ shitty connection).

Yes, there is a trainer with which you can remove the weight limit. I remember seeing a link to it in the stalker thread on the orange board.
Edit: Dug up the link for the lazy ones:

First of all.. what level are u playing at?
I am playing at Veteran level. and I am now after the tunnel and facing about 20 guys.
When I now stopped playing I was Crouching in a little house.. then when they came in I shoot them 100% in the face at very close range.. and they just ignore my shots like it were some flies..
And THATS is bs... Veteran level or not... And I can assure you that I hit what I aim at pretty good,, have been playing FPS for decades now.. and NO I don´t run and gun in STALKER. |
i play at vetran level, i got no problem at all killing stuff, for instance a bandit is 3-10 shot at distance, at close range about 1-5 shot depends on where i hit.

well i completed the game, and did 2 diffrent endings. after the end screen, i reloaded and took the other one, and was thrown back in to chernobyl, then fought my self around the NPP till another end screen came up.
worst ending in a game ever, i was hoping to continue playing after the main quest was done, i had loads of quest left around the zone. To bad

I haven't experienced any yet actually. Works just fine for me, no crashing qs/ql works just fine.

Yeah me just tried it and i followed all the storys in the mags, so ofcourse i thought it will be one of the best games today.
but hell no!
gameplay is ok... nothing more (get a quest-> a -> b -> maybe even c and back to a...)
sound is nice
gfx is ok (because the detaillevel is great but the performance is crap and i use c2d+x1950xt+4gig ram so it shouldt run like butter but it doesnt... there are even hickups when thunder makes lights on the ground)
conclusion= iso will be deleted and no money to gsc (cuz i buy most games that i play)

Thought it would be longer but I managed to complete it, last couple of levels were quite difficult but due to the side missions I did I think I got the best ending.
My ending:
Spoiler: |
Found Doc and got his information about the decoder and used that to unlock the door to the core of Chernobyl where I confronted and destroyed the Monolith/Wish granter and agreed to become part of it to control the zone.
|
Possible alternatives:
Spoiler: |
I had the option to decline and the dialogue path branched at one point so I could probably do other stuff aside from ask about myself, naturally I could aslo ignore the core and use the wish granter to see the bad endings.

Im reading a lot of bad things about the game, especially the endings it would seem. I have to say I quite like the game. One thing I dont like is the timed sidequests. Before I realised they were timed, I was just accepting anything and everything the NPCs could offer me. While casually taking my time to explore, I was suddenly and constantly getting task failed messages lol. Then I noticed in the PDA some tasks said 1 day remaining. Do you only get 1 day to complete the side quests? I have to say that if that is the case, then that is annoying!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Is there a way to find out which are the random timed quests and which are static quests before accepting them? lol.

Retrieve artifact, Kill stalker, Eliminate monster lair, Protect camp, Retrieve stash, Retrieve monster part.
Should be most of the random quests but it's easier to say that all quests you ask about yourself from important npc's are random while a few quests from normal npc's are static.
For a example the fat man and the barkeep are random quest givers while some of patrons in the bar offer static quests.
(Could only see one of them though that was not timed and it involed a family heirloom)

From the orange place:
For those not wanting to use the trainer for the weight :
Open gamedata.db0 with a hex editor and find the string 'max_weight' , change it from 50 to whatever you want and bingo. Thanks to Templ4r from a certain stalker channel on efnet for the tip

You can also further tweak the graphics via the console using the tab key to cycle various commands and typing help to see what they can be set to.
A few of the more interesting would be:
Code: |
r2_gloss_factor 1.5 <- Amount of specular shininess aplied - 0 to 10
(Super shiny to very dull)
r2_allow_r1_lights on <- Default is off, seems to control bloom quality.
r2_ls_bloom_fast off <- Faster but uglier bloom
r2_gi on <- Better lightning, looks awesome with the r2_allow_r1_lights command but kills framerate
r2_ssa_lod_a 96 <- View distance a (set to maximum here, no real change)
r2_ssa_lod_b 64 <- View distance b (Again not really noticable)
Sun and brightness settings, be carefull or you will nuke the lightning. :p
r2_sun on <- Shadows cast from sun
r2_sun_depth_far_bias -0.00001
r2_sun_depth_far_scale 1.
r2_sun_depth_near_bias 0.00001
r2_sun_depth_near_scale 1.
r2_sun_details on <- Shadows on extra stuff such as grass
r2_sun_focus on <- No idea
r2_sun_lumscale 1.
r2_sun_lumscale_amb 0.5 <- ambient brightness (Brighter or darker)
r2_sun_lumscale_hemi 1. <- hemisphere brightness (Nuclear dawm or eternal darkness)
r2_sun_near 12.
r2_sun_near_border 0.75
r2_sun_tsm on
r2_sun_tsm_bias -0.01
r2_sun_tsm_proj 0.3
r2_tf_mipbias -3. <- Texture mipmap quality from 3 (fugly) to -3 (sharp) base value is 0.
renderer renderer_r2 <- renderer mode to use (R1 DX8 or R2 DX9)
r2_tonemap on <- Tonemapping, unsure what it does, can't see the difference.
rs_vis_distance 1.5 <- View distance (set to the highest, not much of a difference)
r2_mblur 1. <- Blur amount (Motion blur? - can't notice anything with this)
r2_ls_squality 1. <- Shadow quality (Again it's not much of a difference)
r2_parallax_h 0.02 <- Parallax value, can't notice what this does.
|
EDIT: Press the plus and minus keys to hide and show the hud.
(Press F12 to take a screenshot, already mentioned somewhere in this thread)
EDIT: Gamespot seems to have a guide available for those who prefer to read about Stalker and learn more about it:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6167656/index.html
(Yay! I took the wrong good ending but the real one sounds a little silly)
