I really wish Vitality's release of this would get nuked. Their crack obviously doesn't bypass the protection.

Yep their crack doesn't bypass the whole protection but if only the big eyes, crew in 2D and sound loops are concerned that's not really a big deal. But i agree it should be nuked in the hope that they will fix these glitches.

I think it's a pretty big deal considering this is a simulation that's all about immersive gameplay. And annoying crap like that what's caused by the crack ruins the whole atmosphere in this game, so it's pretty much unplayable for anyone who wants to play it the way it was meant to be played

I'm back playing Grey wolves SH3, and it makes you realize how shit SH4 is at the moment with out fixes and mods. So as folk here say, Ill be playing mainly SH3 until SH4 matures.

can you describe whats so fucked up with SH4 ?

I haven't played that much SH3 and its hard for me to compare these two... only thing I know that driving that U boat felt more fun and exiting...

And what does that Grey Wolves mode to? Make the game more difficult or makes it more realistic and "fun" ?

I dont think there is anything big you could point at. More like lots of small things that add up. Like the stupid little UI things.

Then there is maybe the biggest difference between the two: the atmosphere. That you were playing the germans in SH3 gave it a certain doomed feeling. You knew you are going to lose at the end, and you knew that the longer into the war you are, the harder it will be for you to even just survive.

In SH4, you know you are on the winning side. Basically its as if you would be playing SH3 on the allied side. It might sound odd, but when i first started up the game and saw the sunny pacific ocean with that tutorial cruiser, i felt like being on a summer holiday. Not like being in war.

For me, the theater of war is the biggest flaw of SH4. A flaw i doubt i will ever be able to get past. It might be a great game in itself, and its definitely an excellent platform for a new SH that hopefully plays in the european theater again, but until that its just a recreational tool for those who get tired of the horrors of the real ww2 sub warfare. The one that happened on the other side of the globe.

You would be better off asking what does it leave unchanged Razz

Honestly.. SH3 and SH3+GWX are just two different games. Not sure what it contains exactly, but my guess would be:
- lots of fine tuning for increased realism
- changed/new textures for better looks and more variety
- new campaign flotillas, new areas to play

I think I have to install SH3 then.. but that shit had that Starforce 3 (I know theres a crack etc but still) that fucked that game up.

And as much as I played SH3 (few missions) I got my ass kicked all the time... its like you where a small fishing boat and those evil allies forces where picking on you... and it felt good when you sunk them Laughing

btw the strange thing is this AI in this game... once I where near a cruiser or smt ship and I was bombing it... then a destroyer boat came and started to shoot @ me... I went under water and ... WTF that thing dint even bother to look for me Sad

And one time a enemy destroyer came right @ me ( i was using my huge gun to bomb them) and tried to run over me... he was scratching my submarine-s side... Shocked

The game play of SH3-GWX is superb and gives you a atmosphere that SH4 cannot come even close to, and just this morning I reinstalled SH3-GWX on Vista, used MS compatibility manager 5 to up my rez to 1208x1024 and the game is to quote it in a puffy fashion, "absolutely gorgeous" only problem I get is a flashing black triangle that appears on the horizon now and again, looking for a fix for that, or maybe a driver update when the Cats: 7.3 eventually arrive.
e

Grey wolfs mod is getting on for a gig in size and even has its own manual.

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/

For instance A ship exploding and burning in SH3 GWX, is a fantastic site compared to the gay poof and candle flame of SH4.

@discworld The 1.4b no cd by reloaded is a perfect crack, dl and enjoy and say fak to starforce

SHIV will be far superior to SHIII when GWX or similar is modded for it. Try playing SHIII without GWX.

SH3 without GWX is still better than SH4

No doubt about that but SHIII was buggy as hell when it was released too and it turned out great. SHIV will to with some patches and mods. I still prefer GWX but it's only a matter of time.

True, but your most likely talking this time next year at least before SH4 matures enough for decent game play, I mean with SH4 the engines there, the bare bones of a great game, but now the real work starts where the modders turn it into the game it should be, only then will SH4 put SH3 to rest. Lets hope Grey Wolf takes a interest. Very Happy

Well, "when" is the important word here. I have no doubt, that in time, SH4 will mature. For myself, the SH4 atmosphere will probably never be that attractive as the SH3 one, but thats only a matter of personal preferences.

Someone here stated that GWX was a whole new game in it self and in a way thats true, the amount of detail that Grey wolf has added is not short of amazing right down to rust slowly devoping on your boat, this might have been there before and you just noice it more with GW, dunno.
No doubt about it though SH3-GWX is still the king of Sub Sims. SH4 in its present condition dont even come close. I love playing as the Germans they are dead ard. Smile

this sounds a lot like the situation with ofp and AA... Anyway that GW mod seems to be huge just alone by reading the manual. Does it have any graphical enhancements as well? Or how does SHIV compare graphically to SH3 with GW?

If you mean like new skins and textures as graphic enhancements then yes, I think it changes or improves most of SH3. Compared to SH4 then I would say SH3 hasent got all the new affects that SH4 has but the graphics are sharper and clearer than SH4, especially if you use the rez tool for 1280x1024 rez and force AA and that texture thingy from your control graphics card control panel, to me it looks the dogs bollocks, sunsets, reflections, explosions, event camera, poo all over SH4

I'm not to clued up on the mechanics of graphics cards, maybe someone else could give you a better answer

No more bulging eyes with the crackfix but sound volume for the voices still seems awfully low.

hey! thanks for the update Vitality !! (please do it for Armed Assault also!!! hehe)
Will test it ASAP...

about voices sound... put 100% volume on voices, 25% on music, and 75% in effects... master at 100% I balance it like that and works more better now... I can hear them well...

I really enjoy SH4, visually, its simply stunning!

However, this fade shit is pissing me off! The random number gibberish, and the pancake crew is kinda ruining it for me. Is the fade system really that hard to crack? It got wacked on Operation Flashpoint, albeit i take it the fade system is much more advanced now.

Hope this gets fixed!

Cheers!

um... it's already been cracked, read some posts that came before yours.
If you're using version 1.0 you can use the clone.
If you're using version 1.1 you can get the fixed crack from gamecopyworld.

Isnt the "fixed" crack from gamecopyworld the same as the one that comes with Silent.Hunter.4.Wolves.of.the.Pacific.Update.1.1-ViTALiTY?

EDIT: Ah.. Silent.Hunter.4.Wolves.of.the.Pacific.Update.1.1.CRACKFIX-ViTALiTY

Can anyone post some screens with high settings of a battle inmidst of a heavy storm? Is the ocean simulated as well as in SH3?
