Diablo II didn't leave my HDD in years, still playing it a few times each month.

GTA2 gets installed now and then.

And every half year I just play through Monkey Island and try to get each dialogue and still find those very funny.

Recently also had an urge to play JA2 again, finished it halfway through and then stopped playing again, don't know why. It's just so awesome, even though I don't really like turn-based strategy at all, but JA2 is different...

I, as well, keep playing older games. Some games I personally can't keep away from are:

Baldur's Gate I & II,
Neverwinter Nights I,
Knights of the Old Republic I & II,
Icewind Dale I & II,
Diablo I SP & Diablo II B.NET,
Settlers II, Transport Tycoon and Road Rash (+ additional - in my tiredness - temporarily forgotten ones).

These are in my opinion immortal classics. Game studios beginning with B seems to be the best ones; BioWare, Blizzard and BlueByte. Especially BioWare.

I haven't seen any ads, I just play it from time to time to dick around in. I have 4 max level characters still, and ones a thief. I run around and pick expensive items and run off just to harass then i destroy the items, just to ruin their experience Razz

And yes, NHL2000 has the funny commentators.

** Fallout: - do i have to say more? Its just such a masterpiece of CRPG.
** CS: - yeah, counter strike.. (not the source version) Even though it is built on the HL1 engine, i think it is still the best multiplayer FPS out there. Apart from Quake 1, but thats different in style. Source is for kiddos.
** Quake 1: - why all the shiny graphics and effects if you are zapping around the map at warp speed anyway? Personally i find the graphical level of Q1 to be perfectly adequate for the gameplay Q1 requires. Those who are able to enjoy the scenery in those shiny new FPSes while playing MP have simply no idea how TRUE FPS action looks.
** JA2: - Another game that just cant get a proper sequel. There was a 3D game called jagged something recently, that was basically a JA2 remake, but it did lack the hilarious storyline of the 'original'. Smile
** Jedi knight 2 (v1.04): (not the sequel, JKA) The lightsabre duels in JK are an art in themselves. Easy to learn, but to master.. that takes years of practice. Again.. no other game that can give you that experience.
** Elite: - (frontiers and first enc) i wish they would make a sequels to that game. A whole universe on a single 1.44 FD disk. A shame today's games require DVDs to provide less in terms of gameplay. Its a shame i cant get it running reliably anymore :/

I think i could keep the list going on all the great old games i would install whenever i get in the mood to play with them, but these are the most prominent ones, and these are the ones i have installed. Apart from a few of course, which i cant enjoy anymore - even though i certainly would (tech difficulties in getting them to run) - i even play these games.

There have been job advertisements here in the UK for Graphic Artists to work on David Brabens new project which will be the long awaited "Elite 4" Though im not sure if there gonna call it that.

If its a sequel, then it should really have Elite in its name.. Would be a shame to call it differently. Then again, im not sure about the legal circumstances around that title, so well.. i guess it might simply not be possible to call the game Elite.

I heard rumors about Elite 4 being developed as well, but nothing specific.. im still holding my breath though. IF there will be a sequel, esp if it will be made by the same Braben who wrote the first games.. that could easily set a new standard in open ended space gaming. ATM nothing comes even close to what Elite was able to provide...

Any old school RPG-ers out there ?
I remember my first ever game i buyed ... it was nearly 20 years ago ... omg wtf ... how much time has passed ???
It was Bard's Tale ... one of the first rpg with a bit of modern (for that years) graphical interface ... i have found myself some years ago playing the three Bard's Tale games once more and even if i didn't have the time to replay them fully or they just were a bit too old style for my actual taste i found them still very nice compared to some of the newest all-graphic-style rpg ...
Then my memory went to Eye of the Beholder 1, 2, 3 ... Lands of Lore ... i tried all of them again ... in particular Lands of Lore gave me in 2005-2006 still a lot of fun that many actual games don't give me ... ooohhh ... did you remember and replayed that ones ???

Yea I love fallout games as well. You guys should definitely try some of the mods for fallout 2 and fallout tactics. I recall playing a very nice conversion mod of fallout tactics which makes it more like fallout 2, with story etc.

Icewind dale 1+2 are my second best games of all time. They just seem to have that great atmosphere, even better than baldurs gate in my opinion. Neverwinter nights doesnt even come close to these two. NWN feels very bland, no atmosphere. There are some nice mods for IWD also.

Wowowo it's nice to encounter some oldskool rpg'er ... were you used like me to draw maps on squared paper ??? OMG i didn't remember this thing from who knows how many years !
I remember i was with a friend of mine with Bard's Tale 3 ... i moved, he drawed maps and together we explored all the epochs of that unforgettable game ...
I tried a similar title a couple of years ago ... damn i don't remember the name, however it didn't give me the same emotions, it was poorly balanced.
It could be nice to have some other title re-done uh ? Maybe with a bit of restyling but without putting with force all those damned 3D ultra high resolution stuff in some titles that could live better without !

Nooo you can't do thisss !!! You have to play at least BG2 + expansion, it's truly a magnificent adventure, i would replay it once again if i didn't have already played it uhm ... three times Smile
Then Diablo 2 too with the expansion is something you should find those 20-30 hours to play, at least at the first level, it's absolutely beautiful and addictive. I played literally years with that, with 3 friends on a LAN was absolutely fantastic !

Ofc, thats half the fun! Smile You mean Devils Whisky? Could have been nice if they had skipped their own classes imo.
Love playing Might and Magic 2 - I gotta connect an amiga and play it again soon (ive got it on pc too, but its more fun on amiga...same thing with bards tale 1 - either amiga or c64..but not pc.. wastelands on the other hands works just as good on pc as it does on c64).
Master of magic is another really old rogue rpg which I like (and I dont mean the strategy game on pc from the 90s..I mean the old c64 game). Same with temple of apshai, questron and eh..Galdereons domain (or what ever it was called). Not to forget Fantasy 3 - wrath of nikodemus

Yeah that was the damned name i forgot Smile Nothing special indeed.
Oh yes i almost forgot the other titles that send me a chill to my spine to think about them ... the M&M serie, up to the sixth title i would say, were absolutely brilliant for me, all played on amiga and the first pcs ... wasteland is another incredible memory ...
Unfortunately today the games market doesn't make anymore such titles uh ?
I'll be false if i would say i don't like some "modern" games, but i really just miss some old style game ... say a Bard's Tale 4 ... i'll gladly buy it !
