Hello Guys

I seem to be having a small problem with my new graphics card and I hoped some of you could give me some advice on how to solve it. I had an MMX GeForce 4000 that would not play some of the newer games because of that crap MMX technology. So I have just brought a “Verto GeForce 6200 256MB AGP card” Now when I play games I get weird spikes jutting out from the main character or the scenery, or bar like shapes that stretch across the screen. I have tried using different Nvidia drivers and changing a few setting but still getting the same problem. I am not that advanced in this area and thought maybe I am doing something wrong.

Ok thanks guys.
I will call nvidia tomorrow and see about a replacement. I called the tech guy at work and he said the same thing, its either heating up or it could be a bad card. I took the temperature after two hours of playing Company of Heroes “that plays great on this card at medium settings” and it never went above 92c so I don’t think it’s over heating.
The reason I brought this card is because I was on a budget, I hope to be getting a new computer from work soon so the one I have now is just a stop gap.

Anyway guys thanks for the help and advice. I will get a replacement from nividia

Nope, no fan on this card just the heat sink I did call PNY about a possible bad card and to double check that the temperatures are ok. The guy said the temps were ok for this card, he said that this card can run at 130c before it hits the slowdown mode. Anyway the guy asked what PSU I had in the pc and I told him a 300w. So he recommended that I buy a more powerful PSU even when the minimum specs are a 300w PSU for that card, so I went to CompUSA and brought a 450w and the problem is still there. So tomorrow I will be back on the phone with PNY to get a replacement card.

What do you think about getting my money back and buying another card? I have about $90 bucks so I cant get a really fast card.

What would be better, AGP or PCI? i dont have a PCie slot on this board

pci > agp
but youll need a new motherboard if you want a pci card, if your current one doesnt support it.

whoever said that for 6200 u need at least 300w psu is an idiot Rolling Eyes
and no 92C is too hot even for fanless vcard,so either your case is badly ventilated or your room temp is too high [pc close to heat?]

anyway now u got 450w[hopefuly decent one] go and get yourself 7600GS or GT which u can afford and yes for PCI-e u need new mobo, cpu etc so skip that part

Thanks for all your help and advice guys, I really do appreciate it.

Again, just called PNY to tell them that the card is getting too hot but the guy insisted that 92c is fine. But after your advice I to think it is getting a little hot. I am not to sure how good the standard cases are from HP? It’s an HP a800n so I would guess the ventilation is normal. The room temp is normal too. Anyway after speaking to the guy at PNY I told him I was just not happy and he is sending me a RMA form for me to return the card for my money back. So I am going to take your advice and get the 7600GS card.

Anyway thanks again guys for your time in helping me

The PSU I brought today was an XION 450watt ATX 2.2 “Hope that is ok”

Just to answer the question AGP is better than PCI. But PCI-E is better than both.

On my fan-less 6600GT, my temperatures were 70 idle and 80-90 on stress.
