Either this will be never finished or an extremely dumbed down version compatible for the masses. Like Freelancer.
Still my hopes are high and I hope the gaming mentality has changed a bit in 2006...

I creamed my pants reading that interview. If half of what he says turns out to be true and work once the game is finished, than this might very well be what I've been fantisizing about all my life. A game that combines first-third person-controll with spacesim, hopefully you can land on a planet and walk around etc
A huge task for Braben...
Dont mess with God, he can impregnate your girlfriend/wife without taking his pants off!

Hope they make the docking a bit easier in this one.
Nearly punched a hole through my Electron once trying to dock the bastards.
Ah them were the days, easy life.

Did you ever read what Chris Roberts said a few years ago on what features Freelancer will have? It sounded so great.
Did any of those features make it into the final product? No.
Though I have more respect for Braben, however I highly doubt it is financially viable to release such a complex game today. That's why they either make it extremely simple (->Freelancer) or just won't release it.
You can't make money with such complex games as Elite nowadays anymore.

to be honest i would be ecstatic with a frontier clone with updated graphics and sound. if they could just do that it would be the perfect game almost. whether he can manage to get 1st person stuff in as well im not too bothered about unless its top notch. the fact thats its been in development for so long, involving the production of other games as part of a development is surely a good sign that it will be a top game.

I thought Iwar2 was excellent with a whole bung of mods used.
Didn't like X2 that much as it just felt lack luster in gameplay, was all about money and buying things.

I have every confidence in the Breadbin. He wants Elite IV to be the "be all and end all" of space trading games, that will knock Freelancer/X2/IWar etc out of the water.
And its possible. As long as Frontier Developments publish Elite IV themselves and don't get any other publishers involved.
The reason that the Frontier: Elite 2 and Frontier: First Encounters games were initially buggy (FFE especially) was that the publishers got tired of waiting and rushed the Breadbin to get them released.
As long as he takes his time, and builds it all up nice and slowly it will be worth the wait.

Chris Roberts is and always has been a frustrated movie director. Given a choice between working on FMV, cutscenes and plot or working on mechanics, features and balance he'll go for the first every time

You cant compare Braben to a halfassed movie director, but as stated above if he is given time then this project might very well be what all of us have been waiting for.
