Parallax, what kind of a PC do you have? 5 year old? It won't run Crysis @ 60fps, you know...

I don't know how true that is. I've seen some trailers which rival Crysis in my opinion.
Besides, how can you predict how far the current concoles will progress.

i think that the main problem with concoles, is that you can't really upgrade the gpu or the cpu, and basicly ,what you have got when you pay for it is what you will got without the ability to upgrade - till the next gen concole, and with pc the pic is diffrent sometimes you can just buy better graphic card - or just add more ram or even just change cpu and your gaming expirience jump from 15 fps up above.
i do have presccot 3.2 ghz with 1024 ram and 6600GT.
the first item i am going to change is the graphic card from 6600GT into 8600 ultra or maybe 8800gts (i'll see prices and benchmarks when the 8600 will be out) and i will see how it works with the new card' if there will be and probs-i'll go for more ram probably.
i do think that my old cpu will be fine with better ram and better gfx card.

Which is why I'm going to upgrade before Crysis arrives, of course

Like which game? If you think Alan Wake will look the same on Xbox360 as on the PC, you're in for a big disappointment.

Pfft, anyone stating DX10 quality can be achieved on a current-get console is just retarded, sorry! Open Google and see some videos and screenshots of DX10 in action, then come and ask to be forgiven!

The technology behind a game means fuck all, it's how it looks and plays that matters. Compare the first PS2 games with what's come out towards the end of it's life and you can see how far a consoles graphics can progress.

it's true that you can't upgrade consoles... but that's not necessarily a disadvantage...
consoles need far less power to get the same result... as it's only ONE hardware-combo you need to optimize for... plus you don't have an OS like Windows in between the hardware and the game

p.s-not sure if the trailer is new' but i saw it only today and i wanted to share. |
instead of having us download a video off a slow as hell server, why not just give us a link to the video directly?
High Def
None HD
and wtf, theres nothing new about this at all, I saw all this shit in a trailer about a month ago that I downloaded. Unless it was a leaked copy

Your cpu won't do much. I have the same cpu and recently got a 8800GTS 640mb for future use(its a long story why I got this card but, trust me it was the best deal). It does little to nothing at source games(cpu limitation) but it runs fairly beautiful in oblivion with acceptable frames - 4AA, HDR, all settings to max, 1680x1050.
I'm saving now maybe until september(if I can hold on until then) to build a new system with Q6600 or whatever other quad core deal can give me a fair amount of "future proof".
Edit: wtf with the quotes not working

the point with a console si that u dont need to upgrade ure console. They make new game taht work on ure crapy console eny way. Just like Alan wake will come to 360 and pc, but to run it on pc u need more money then it takes to buy a 360 play it like it will play on a 360 on a pc.

mmmm...I don't think consoles are cheaper these days if you add the new 40" HD tv for the best experience.

Their hardware has already been eclipsed. In another year, when the tools are mature to push current consoles to the breaking point, this hardware will be standard issue. The achilles hseel of consoles is the static hardware base. It is a blessing at launch, but begins to bite them in the ass every month that passes.

yes but console weakness is also its strength - a preset uniform-among-all-systems set of systems specs... what works on 1 console will work on all... unlike pc's, which have such a massive wide range of components and setups with different levels of optimisation... pc game makers need to try to keep a relatively wide scope of potential players happy, and it must be said that some things can be compromised because of this, even when we have quality setting options... personally i dislike consoles, im a pc gamer through and through, but having one set of specs to design to, can yield some awesome results because you dont have to concider how powerful your markets machines are.

What you are not taking into account is that the PS2 and Xbox were crap to start with, the PS3 and Xbox360 aren't. The graphics are quite good enough for HDTV so maybe gameplay will make a comeback? There must come a point where you can't significantly improve graphics so how are you going to sell a new console? Physics? My bet is that most peeps don't really get physics.

The games released for the next gen consoles would easily run on a good PC, it wouldn't even have to be high-end (like dual GF8800GTX and 4gb ram or such). I think a Radeon x1800 would be sufficient.

Thats easy to say because everyone just whines about bad optimisation if it doesn't. Regardless, many games that have come out on both the 360 and PC, looks better on the 360, especially if you have an x1800.

While that might have been true with previous generations consoles and the Wii, it just simply ain't for Xbox360 and PS3. I have played both on my 24" LCD, same as I use for my PC, as well as on a big screen (over 100") - and what you're saying is a bunch of bullshit.
How funny you mention WoW, because that looks like a big pile of stinking turd.
HL2? They seriously need to update their outdated static light rendering methods.
