Can't even try this game, cause cannot install dameon 4.09. Tried on two computers, gives me internal setup error before it even gets to ask me what dir to install it to. Looked at daemon tools forums and nothing there fixes it.

You should have had a look @ the daemon main page ^^
Install the new STPD drivers first manually... then after that the new DT.

Ok I got latest daemon to install, but can't get past the protection, keeps saying failed to identify the disc. I also uninstalled old daemon before installing new one.

I like clones, if they're good.
They're just like addons of the game they are a clone of, offering more of the same with some changes. So if I like the gameplay of a game, I usually enjoy it's clones as well.

I don't think this is a great game, but it's good enough to keep me busy for a while and satisfy my need to kill stuff Diablo style.

It's starforce. You have to install the drivers to play with the clone, since there's no crack out.

Finally I can pass the protection Very Happy

for those who can't pass the protection check, try to use sfdrvrem to uninstall the starforce driver completely, then reinstall it. And uncheck automount and autostart of daemon tools' options. It should work fine. Smile

Just thought I'd repost this for those of you having problems:

Quote:
Just wanted to clarify: This game works!!! ALso, it\'s starforc\'d and after I installed it my computer wouldn\'t start up correctly, so I uninstalled and await a SF free crack but anyways...

If you already have daemon tools below v4.09:
Uninstall it, reboot, download newest version (4.09.1) from their homepage, reboot.

Otherwise:
Make sure your DT version is at least 4.09. Open DT, add 1 DVD, enable all emu options, mount the image. Install the game as normal, restart if you like (always good). Make sure DT is open, image is mounted, and all emu options are enabled, then start up Dawn of Magic. SF will come up, install the drivers (if you dare) and restart. Again, make sure the image is mounted and the emus are on, then run the game. SF should run fine and the game should start. Enjoy!

PS: YOU DON\'T NEED TO UNPLUG ANY DRIVES OR USE YASU

good luck

Also, does anyone know of a crack? I can't install SF apparently, otherwise my computer refuses to start without me closing and reopening explorer.exe. So any SF-free crack would greatly appreciated.

Oh, and first post Very Happy

The RLD release seems much more stable, runs smoother, and looks nicer than the clone. Also, no SF! wooooooooo

It has some interesting ideas but a rather bad execution and the character cast isn't that great either.

Same characters return in the sequel by the way (Can even be imported from the first game based on the available PDF manual.)

Pretty bad Steam rip though, they missed the registry information in that .vdf file that all Steam titles use (Darkest of Days as well for example albeit Skidrow used a slightly better installer than a self extracting rar archive.)

Though I guess it's OK as long as it works.

I played it for about half hour last night and whoa... immediate dislike. The "idea" is ok, and I love that - being a professor in a school of magic - you start off with a decent number of spells, but the combat is clunky as all hell, the voice acting is someone of the worst I've heard, buying/selling stuff from NPCs is needlessly cluttered and control methods are a pain in the friggin' arse.

hey Jbeckman , can u please illustrate what u have said about being a bad steam rip? something related to .vdf file .....

what is the scope of being bad and what is .vdf file? is it bad to the extent not to be finished?

The vdf file contains information like reg values that the game uses. (it's like when you copy paste an installation folder without proper installing, but you also need the reg values sometimes)

Steam uses that file to put the proper reg values in place, as if it was installed normally.

Anyway, if it works, it works.

Yeah that's what I meant, registry information for this game isn't that much however, install location and version number so it's not really required as such and again I'm fully OK with it as long as the release works but I figured I should mention it. Smile
(With Steam releases either you make a classic rip or a homemade installer, neither solution is really elegant but it works and there's not much else to do about it.)
