it was nothing to do with the game or how it played, it was the trading community Smile That's all why I played for it. Trying to get that windforce and schauffers armor Razz same with the item drops. They were exicting in hell cows. set items. rare items.

I was SO waiting for this title to have finally a decent LAN RP again. On their site, in the FAQ, there was LAN play listed until last week.

Now i read they took it out and offer Internet-play only. So lame.

well, if the game is good and you like it. Buy it. Not like we ever get any good games that deserve it.

Here comes:

Combat is pretty simple, just click left mouse button to hit, it's very hack'n'slash, which isn't all that bad, it's simple but still fun. Bow combat is almost the same as gothics, but the cool thing is, the longer you string the bow, the more Zoom in you get, so you can get a better shot. Shots don't seem to be all about where you target, but more like in stalker, skill dependant. Magic looks cool, but I have tried it only little, and mostly healing spells.

When leveling you get 5 stat points which you can spend to improve willpower, vitality, dexterity or strength. You also get skill points (when leveling and when competing quests) which you speed on upgrading perks. There are about 30+ perks in total, perks include passive ones like better use of a shield or faster shooting with an arrow, or active ones which you can place on your toolbar and use during combat (although I have still found that simple click bashing is most effective tool, even though combat might be much easier with use of these abilities, but I just haven't played that much).

There are many minor bugs, like many many clipping errors. Animations are pretty laggy (might be just me but I don't think so), especially horse riding, which looks and performs pretty bad(controls for riding are a bit messed up also). You often end up in the most ridiculous places when riding, like in a tree, or going 90° upward on a an invisible wall. Horse combat is pretty messed up as I tried to fight some wolves, and if I keep my horse going slow enough I could kill them but they couldn't even attack me, got out with just a few scratches. Enemy spawning is too obvious, as they do spawn on top of you.

World is large, but pretty bland, with little dungeons to explore (I think all the dungeons in the game relate to certain quest, and you can't enter most of them before that). It's definately not like oblivion with ruins or caves on every corner. There is enough outside content to keep you exploring the woods around the cities, but definately not enough (more than in oblivion, less than in gothic), most of it is empty.

Dialogues and quests seem very well done. There are plenty of them, and quests are categorized in your journal where you can read all about it step by step, and color coded with a star on your map and mini-map. Enemies are also color-coded based on your equipment and stats.

Towns are nice looking with enough stuff going on, and few quests givers and such, but there are massive buildings which I can't enter, some buildings don't even have doors! I really miss that, and I really liked that in oblivion. You can enter certain buildings where you meet certain guild people but it's always same 1 room on the first story, plus perhaps 1-2 extra rooms in the back with couple of beds, table, armoire and a chest, or a few boxes.

Lip synching (or better said, lack of it) is badly done. It's not the problem that the lips don't move based on the dialogue, it's same with G1 and 2, and I never cared. But character mouths are so badly done I just can't look at them, and the most annoying part is, the lips don't stop moving even if the character pauses during a sentence(which was an option even in gothic 1).

Graphics are sweet, weapon and armor models really look special and awesome, I love them. Environments are okay done, although forest and plains areas look better in oblivion and gothic 3, tows look better, too bad about not being to enter the buildings tho.

You have 5 schools of magic, which you upgrade just like any other perk. Once you invest certain amount of skill points you get to use new level spells. You get spells from enemies and chests, and put them in your spell book. There seems to be plenty of spells for each school.

Few cool things about the game is that you can combine similar weapons to create a stronger one, you can also pick up certain crystals which you can add to your weapon(for example, if you add lighting damage, you can add further lighting damage crystals to that weapon to improve it, but no other damage types). You also have alchemy, where you get to create your own recepies (success based on alchemy perk). You make all kinds of potions from herbs you get around towns.

Trading is done pretty standard, inventory system reminds me a lot of diablo. You also have standard RPG stuff like lockpicking, sneaking system(you can turn off lights and torches). Sneaking system is pretty well implemented, as you can see how close you are to being detected with a marker over your enemies head. Lockpicking and sneaking are both improved by perks.

You can join about 8(correct me if I'm wrong) factions in which you can progress, but I haven't tried that, or seen how it works.

That's all I can think of right now.

Item drops seem to be diablo style, some are normal with only damage/armor bonuses, others have random perk and stat bonuses. I haven't played enough to see if there are normal, magic, epic, etc. items, but definately get more cash from traders for the items with stat bonuses. I also read in a review, that stats on the armor and weapons are random.

I don't know about gamepad support sorry.

I can't stand SINGLE-PLAYER rpg's...it's not doing it for me anymore..I play hour after hour then all I feel is "why the fuck did I do all this" (thou same goes for MMO's).

Nowadays all I play is games where I can play with buddies. Everything else (almost) feels like a waste of time! Sure I play some single games when I'm bored without anything else to do, but its not like I spend much time with single-player games these days. Maybe I've grown past that or something. CO-OP games is the only games that makes me tingle inside now.

That makes this game another "no-go" for me without LAN. Even if its good or not.

Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

I feel ya on that. Even the most boring game can be enjoyed through co-op. Hell me and a friend spent countless hours playing through dungeon siege II and the exp. For some reason the combat in that game was the most mind numbing experience but I always enjoyed it for some odd reason. The weapons always turned me on too. Seems devs don't under stand we like playing with friends for the extra enjoyment of talking to each other over skype talkin shit. Was alot of fun on flatout 2. We'd get like 5 of us playing normally then some random guy would join our game. We'd all gang up on him in races and dirbys

Changelog for the 1.1 patch, took a while to find but that's alot of fixes.

Oh and based on various fansites and the official forums the 1.2 patch will be released later today and will mainly add support for the 9xxx and 1900xx cards that lack certain shader features.
(2.0B shader support if I remember correctly, they coded the SM 2.0 path using 2.0B shaders so only the X800 serie and above could run the game)

There's more to it than that and according to the forums this was done due to a impressive 20% performance boost.
(That will be lost in the patch depending on the choices you take during installation or such.)

Quick "Google" translation, should atleast be somewhat readable:
Code:

We become this evening a new update 1,2 releasen. Already times for this a few information. Radeon 9600, 9700.9800 + 1900XT: these maps do not support “helped precision floating POINT calculation”. This Shader function constitutes all that thing 20% the Performanz. Therefore we cannot generally remove it. The update will thus ask with the installation for the diagram map. MP: this evening we become the MP servers reseten. Unfortunately through it all past characters are lost - therefore we make dearer today than later. However it a new feature gives. Starting from the update one can play in such a way MP missions also alone (assure to practice or leveln).

lol... I'll translate that so you people have to guess a little less as to what it means.

This evening we will release Update 1.2. Here are some infos:

Radeon 9600, 9700,9800 + 1900XT: these cards don't support "half precision floating point calculation". This shader function is responsible for 20% of the game's performance though, so we can't remove it for everyone. This update will ask during installation if you want to remove it or not.

We will also reset the multiplayer servers today which will delete all characters so we'd rather do this now than later. There is also a new feature in the update. You will be able to play Multiplayer missions alone to level up your character.

Thanks, knew I should have finished the german course but I only did one year of it during school so I only understand some basic phrases and the most common words.
(Easy language but was busy with other stuff and it was a optional course.)

EDIT: Patch 1.2 thread.
http://boards.topware.de/showthread.php?t=25958
(Yes, that means the patch is out, follow the link in the above thread)

Absolutely. We have 15 skills that are special combat maneuvers to use during fights. You can strip others of their shield, break their weapons, knock them off their mount, kick dirt in their eyes, or even shove a torch in their face. Oh yeah kick dirt in their eyes. Combined with a clever AI this one was very very annoying. I tried some two handed sword for some minutes and really cut through some bandit group, when one of them started to kick dirt at me. With a shield this usually is no problem, but that dick kept doing it whenever I was able to move again. Quite good AI, that guy exploited that hole in my defense vigorously until he got me down. I reloaded and switched back to my shield Razz
