So almost everyone with a flashed firmware here has been banned? Seems to me like MS is able to detect if someone tampered with the firmware of the drives after all, regardless of what the hackers claimed before the spring update.

maybe with some firmware update from before they managed somehow to gather information about discs that you play and that info store somehow to HDD and then they just trigger this bad thing...
btw that modchip cant be of any use if they found a way to see if you have ever played pirated games on the console, bcoz again, if you turn on flashed firmware than play the game, turn off flashed and put genuine one, maybe again they will ban your console bcoz that data of copied game will be stored on your HDD somehow...
only theory

yup... we should see how will situation grow in near future... but im hoping that we can use HDD from banned console to core sistem and play there...
but one guy from one serbian forum is telling that he only plays original PGR3 for some time on his console and he's still not banned... he's telling that they can detect firmware only if pirated disc was or is inserted maybe from update last 1-2 updates, misrosoft was collecting information about consoles in that way used it now to ban ppl who even insterted back ups in the last 1-3months
and of course people who played halo 3 beta from crackdown pirated disc get banned too

You can use HDD from the banned console in whatever system you like, yes. Microsoft only bans your console, not your account.
It's just speculation right now what Microsoft is gathering of information to ban users, could be anything.
One thing I am quite certain of is that they are dishing out bans in batches or over a period of time. So if you are using a flashed firmware and are still unbanned, chances are you will be sooner or later.

Parallax, last time I checked I wasn't banned. As soon as I read about this crap I unplugged my 360 from the internet, and I intent to keep it that way until I learn more about the situation.. But you say they will keep on banning people for some time. Do you think it actually helps me that I stay offline?

ye, but if they collect information from back up games, they're storing that on HDD. from there, they can see if you played back up or not...
so if its true, i dont think that putting your hdd from banned console in new sistem will be smart thing to do
@felixen21
you will get banned eventually if you have played back ups in last couple of months... so its just matter of time

No, unfortunately I don't think it helps. Depending on what method Microsoft uses to detect illegal firmware/burned discs, it might not even help that people only play burned discs while being offline. As soon as they go online there might be a log or something that is sent to Microsoft about their past activities. That's just a theory anyway.
But let's say for arguements sake that this isn't the case, and that they can only detect online activity. If you were online while having illegal firmware/playing using burned discs and Microsoft recorded it (assuming Microsoft is recording 100% of all occurences), it doesn't matter if you go offline. Your account will still be banned by Microsoft regardless if you stay offline.

Microsoft have already said that it's fine to use your HDD on a machine that isn't modded. The aren't stupid, they want you to carry on playing and buying games.

best bet is they scan your drive while u connecting to live!
after all u connecting to their servers
it's like cd-key wrong = banned, they did same thing here it's just took them a while
and i doubt they'll integrate somekinda spyware in future games that will block u from playing back up's off-line coz it will be another starforce for sure, they have enough bricked boxes as it is

ye, but i think that they cant scan your drive if it not working at that moment... that's only my opinion...
there's always some uber hacker who will hack all that shit.. look vista, they told that its impossible to crack and what now...?
usual story for all software programs...
but one's for sure, probably i will have 2 xboxes, one flashed for offline play and one not flashed, core sistem for online play (halo3, gow, forza2 and couple of more), but i will use same HDD if it will be possible... or just memory card for profile and couple of saves

That hasn't been confirmed yet as far as I know. People can be banned just because their firmware isn't original from what we know. I'm sure Microsoft has many other detection method than just detecting if a burned disc is in your DVD player.

Been worried about this but thought "what the hell". I updated with the spring update and downloaded Forza 2 Demo, played awhile with that. Had a burned disc in the drive all the time (Enchanted Arms). The update was installed friday.
I'm not banned, yet. I haven't played any games except the Forza 2 demo _after_ the update though.
As far as I know I have a sammy (ms-28 I think) and 5.2.
When I check the status code my Z is 0000-0000 still. Going to leave it for a few days and log in from time to time to see if there is any change. I won't play any burnt games during this time.

It is true, but some major points:
#1: Don't ask for ETA - (timeframe)
#2: Forgot about UNBAN - (efuses, encryption) - Just buy another console
#3: Don't ask about features, drive support - It may or may not be the same as before.
And LAST, "Welcome to the new LIVE"
You will all just have to get used to the FACT that M$ WILL and HAVE done changes,
nothing you can do will take you BACK-IN-TIME, enjoy the YEAR of fun you had.

If u had a firmware hack then the mac address of that system and only that sytem is banned, NOT your username or account so u can indeed put your hard drive onto a new core system and as long as u dont hack the firmware and only play originals in that core machine with the h/d on u will be fine as that machine is online and only playing originals as in the contract to live, now comes the confusing part, if that hard drive also has game info from copied games on there from the other hacked 360 then microsoft cannot ban the un hacked firmware machine as they are in breach of contract as u have not opened nor altered the machine in anyway the h/d drive is attached to and as the hard drive is an external part this does not constitute a ban under any cicumstance and if they started banning ppl like this from what is on the h/d they would lose court case after court case period, quite simply the spring update had a small program that checks to see if the firmware is original they spent one week seeing how many ppl where playing online with copies, then that mac address of the console not the user/hard disk is banned. microsoft WILL ban all users with hacked firmware by the end of the month, it does not matter what u do.
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

My thoughts are that people get banned when they have a console that has been modified AFTER it has already been on xbox live (unless someone claims otherwise) as myself and a mate both have 360's that were modded out of the box and only connected to live AFTER they had been modded and both of us can still use Live just fine even with copies.
