you are correct, all though the NTSC standard also applies for Japan.

Pal runs at 50 Hz.
Ntsc runs at 60 hz.

And one more thing..
If your tv doesn't support NTSC for example, you can't play movies made with this standard, but I think most of the resent tv sets support both NTSC and PAL.

PAL and NTSC are more about TV(video) standards than a vhs or dvd.
They basicly dictate how many frames, what resolution and how the scanline(interlace etc) works.

well that depends, some DVD players dont need a Multisystem TV to play NTSC movies.
Ex. The philips 642, it reads both NTSC and PAL and it doesnt need ur TV to be multisystem Smile

About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.

Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

PAL is a higher resolution format for DVD than NTSC. All else being equal, a PAL DVD of a movie should look significantly better than the equivalent NTSC DVD

Just check your TV and DVD player.. and if its compatible with both, then u never have to worry about this again.
I think all the ones that u get today (in Sweden at least) run both formats.

i'll try to explain briefly.

There are 3 differences.
1.) region DVD must be compatible with the DVD reader, but those protections are gone (stripped by the groups, so no prob)
2.) The framerate.
NTSC = 29.976 fps
PAL = 25 fps
this means, if u play a PAL DVDR on a NTSC tv u have a flickery image (u prolly seen in the news on television the flickering when they film pc screens, it is the same)
3.) The AR. a DVD is always 720*720 pixels, but the pixels are not the same. Dunno exactly what the difference is, but one of them is a bit longer.( thats why NTSC divxes have 2.35 mostly and PAL dvixes 1.85 framerate) thus watching a wrong DVD on wrong player fux up the screen...

And another small thing, the colors arent quite the same, which gives a grey screen while watching NTSC on PAL television.

I hoped this was a bit helpful.

And plz correct me if i made a mistake somewhere. Smile

btw: for some more info on the regions. http://www.hancockandmonks.co.uk/dvd.htm#region_chart
btw: for some PAL NTSC differences technicaly and playability.
