GamersGate is a digital download store so it's probably a special protection seeing as Securom, Safedisc and Starforce are usually ment for cd/dvd disc copies.

Ofcourse there may be online versions of the starforce check since the company recently expanded the protection system with various extras such as documents and images.

And it's more like russian publishers protect starforce and european devs get protected by starforce.
(Though the list of developers and publishers who use that protection have shrunk a little since the whole GalCiv 2 torrent accident.)

EDIT: Being stupid here, should have recognised that obvious joke.

Gamersgate version has starforce,in the installed files you can find protect.dll and protect.exe. When checking the version of protect.dll/exe you see it's starforce 4.70.9.3.Smile

But starforce ain't so bad..for now anyway(wait for 5).Very Happy
European publishers may not use SF anymore(other than codemasters of course and a few others),but games like you are empty/star wolves 2/etc are published by 1C to gamersgate,so they will all have SF.

Blood was fun. Painkiller was fun. This one isn't. One word: booooring.

As someone wrote in another thread: in a FPS the player must get satisfaction from killing enemies. This means nice weapon sounds, gore, enemies suffering when hit, nice deaths etc. YAE doesn't have all this despite some great atmosphere and decent although repetitive level design. But there's no FUN.

Well, take a close look at what happens when you shoot enemies. Nothing. Sometimes they don't even jerk a bit. When hp reaches 0 they just fall. No fun. No satisfaction whatsoever.
One more thing. The difficulty balance is very bad. The engine is awfully optimized (though being outdated) thus requiring closed-spaced levels. And closed spaces with at least three enemies means they tear you apart.
In Painkiller you always had a possibilty to retreat or to jump around like a crazy flea avoiding enemies. Here you have a narrow 'corridor' with mobs often spawning behind you making a retreat impossible. It's not challenging it's just some bad game design and balance.

Worked for me but I uninstalled it shortly afterwards, wasn't that fun to play and quite a average FPS title in general.

Had a slight error during the first start as well that made the game hand during loading since I had removed the Logo.Avi in the res/textures/video folder to speed up the starting sequence but after copying the small Video2.avi file into the movie folder and renamed it to Logo.Avi everything worked OK.
(It's only a second or so in length as well.)

Interesting character art and a rather unique setting but it's usually corridor after corridor when navigating trough the levels.

I had the same problem starting it, I changed the startup.exe to windows 2000 compatibility mode and it now seems to work okay.

Tried that already and still freezes

btw.. there is a 2 codec files on DVD.. the other one gets a error during installation, it says that it is not compatible with my system.. I have Windows Mediaplayer 11

i don't have legal copy like you do;), but i must agree that this game is preety fun:)

*am i the only one that the streets texture looks kinda HL2 to him?

animation sucks and gameplay very simple, but its still fun:) i somehow find my self playing this game during the last two hours and i enjoyed...the beggining kinda bad, but after sometime its getting better.

specialy liked the giant chickens:D

Not that bad. Has some advantages. Graphics isn`t everything. Yep, opponents animation sucks. Great audio. Almost Sanitarium in 3D
