Game is ok. It was pretty fun back in the day. Although i must admit, even though i bought it on xbox 3 yrs ago - i never beat it. I got bored about 3/4 of the way through. This time i didn't even make it to earth. 
PC: i7-4790k @ 4.4, 32GB @ 2400, Nvidia 1080TI FE, 2 TB Crucial MX500 SSD
Nintendo Switch SX OS Pro / PS4 Pro 5.05 Hen/Mira / PS3 Modded / Wii Modded / 360 Pre-Wave4 mod

halo 2 starts for me every time in 60hz. And when i try to change it i get black screen with gray lines. I Have the latest Sound/Video Drivers. It's OK when I uninstall the video drivers and go on with the windows defaults, but without the nVidia drivers I can't watch normal video... HD, play other games
I have nvidia 7900, AMD X2, nForce4 MB, something is messing with the D3D render..
Any Idea ?

so, is it possible to play on xp yet? (been away for a while)
@stirlitz, put the refresh override on your desired value through dxdiag (more help > override)
those 3rd party refresh rate apps screw up my games aswell (they dont even start up, fixed it with the dxdiag option)

so I installed halo 2 last night & i've played it alot on the x-box. I got to say yeah for the pc it's looking dated but it looks better then the x-box version smoother textures, it looks better then the added texture resolution even that they released for the x-box 360 for those who played it there so in all they didn't do a good job. For those who were delusional of thinking this game was gonna be anythign but halo 2 obviously your gonna be disapointed. Halo has some of the best story lines for a FPS. The only story line I prefer is half life 2 but that's because valve focused on it for pc & has had more attention then microsoft being idiots & releasing halo 1 & 2 years later after it's been milked on the x-box's consol. Anyway enjoy it for what it is & you wont be so disapointed.

I have exactly the same problem as you have with the same gfx card and a nforce 4 ultra mobo and x2 cpu as well. Fucking shitty nvidia drivers. And my game freezes on top of it after playing a while and i can only play in 1680x1050. As soon as i change the res i get green/blue lines  With the normal install from the blindwrite clone without using the crack the game doesn't freeze. But i don't like to play the game without the cut-scenes. |
I with the original copy of the game so the problem isn't coming from it, or the .iso file. Damn nvidia...
(btw i found a way to change to the Hz)
Open the game, it starts in 60Hz, go to the video option, change the resolution and Hz that ur Desktop has, and when u get the shity screen with lines, press the Win Key type "Media center"  and when u seen media center normally Alt+Tab 1-3 times to the game
1st time its fun... but to do that every time u start the game :\sux

Same Nivida here using an X2 & 7900 GT.
It happens in all my games so I use XP for gaming... sucks ass tbh

Don't think that will work, Halo2 doesn't really use DX10 anyway and the instructions are taken from the Fallen Leaf DX10 demonstration that were released a while ago.
(Wich allows one to run DX SDK D3D10 demo programs from Windows XP with some problems.)
