I'm really enjoying DiRT, but then I let my brother play and he immediatley pointed out framerate problems. jumps between 30 and 60fps. and I don't mean numbers inbetween, it's pretty much only 30 or 60 fps.

anyone know what's going on here?

How did you get the p-i-p of the cockpit to show up in the replay? Is that feature in the game?

Neoappie, your video got me depressed. Just about how my computer can't handle DiRT, and how I haven't got an X360 controller or wheel to enjoy it.

Nice driving, your graphics settings make this game go as close to reality as it can get, and the replays offered by DiRT are amazing. Pretty good idea to add PiP with the dashboard cam.

Thumbs up.

Nice graphics but after seen that movie i'm now sure the game sucks... Sad
Seems like the car is floating around, the sound of the engine isn't very real and other things seem not real to. It's a pity, but i think codemaster's don't know anymore how to make a good car game Confused

Seeing as owners of the X360 gamepad have much better handling in the game, can anybody that has one give me the full name they get in Control Panel > Game Controllers?

I remember in FIFA that I used to rename my gamepad to a Logitech one so that it would recongize it and let me use the right-ministick correctly. Maybe the preset settings that DiRT has for the X360 gamepad would work on other gamepads, should we be able to fool the game that we have one.

Not very hard to do, just make 2 video's and paste the one in the other! Perfectly syncronized.

Thanx all for the compliments! (DarkLeftos sorry for the depression! Wink)

@Tresh, you have to play it to know how it feels and it feels great. You have to use FFB though!!

Funny, I saw another pic on the internet mentioning "XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller)".

When I tried that, I still got "Customize" as my controller was not validated as one that DiRT has a preset profile for.

I may try your version later and see if it makes a difference.

UPDATE: Didn't work either. I guess DiRT detects gamepads via drivers or something else other than the OEM Name.

UPDATE 2: In S:\Games\DiRT\ActionMap are the presets the game uses on supported controllers. I suppose the 4th one with the device name set as "win_xinput" supports the XBOX 360 controller. The obvious reasons why it is more playable are the custom saturation and deadzone settings used on each control. If only there's a way to make the game use that preset on other devices...

Got me before I would edit my post, I've just woken up from a nap. I've tried doing some editting, editing all assignments and axes as well the device name, but the game still doesn't detect it.

Here's a link: http://rapidshare.com/files/38319341/actionMapPreset4.zip.html

@ Darkleftos

Well, I don't have the game, so I can't check for myself, but I would suggest that you first try to make sure which preset IS actually being used, then make it identical to the preferred one.

Maybe try to totally screw with the profiles and find out which is being used by method of elimination.

@VGAdeadcafe: Everyone that tried the game with an X360 gamepad says it's much better with it, so I thought I would only have to edit the device name the game looks for for that certain preset, but it didn't work.

I can't find the customized control scheme I'm currently using so that I'd make it identical with the X360 since everything in the Save folder is unreadable, to me at least.

Anyway, I give up for now. My rig can't even run the game decently on stages with other cars, I can't care that much about getting it to work with my controller right now.

This game doesn't work good at all with wheels. Actually it doesn't work at all because controls are totally crappy. This game is shiny graphics - then the designer decided their work is done.

Works perfectly fine with my wheel. Maybe you need to look at your system before blaming the designer.
