Ship Simulator 2008

  • Official web page: Link
  • Publisher: Lighthouse Interactive
  • Developer: VSTEP
  • Genre: Simulation
  • Release date: July 6, 2007
  • Story/Description:
    Quote:

Ship Simulator is a revolutionary ship simulation game, whereby you get the ability to steer various ships in different environments. Both the graphical quality of the ships and their dynamic behavior are completely realistic, so the game is not only fun, but you learn something about ships and ship handling as well. The initial version was released in 2006 in 20 countries and 7 languages and sold beyond expectation. Its success led to the development of an add-on pack with 6 additional ships, and a Professional edition aimed at Nautical Schools.
Previously announced as Ship Simulator 2007 earlier this year, the decision to hold back the release until the middle part of the year has prompted the decision to change the title to Ship Simulator 2008. This also reiterates the companies commitment to support the product with add-ons and new features throughout 2008.

  • New features:
    Quote:

    - Three brand new exciting sailing areas: San Francisco, Southampton/Solent area incl. Cowes, and Marseille.
    - Nine brand new vessels, from pilot boat to supertanker, including even a massive offshore oil rig
    - User-controlled harbour container cranes
    - Ocean waves, with realistic ship motions
    - Long-distance trips between harbours (open sea missions)
    - Walkthrough option on all ships
    - Interactive bridge controls on all ships
    - Advanced weather system
    - New navigation instruments, including a depth meter
    - Mid-mission save function
    - Visible damage on ships after a collision
    - Advanced towing, anchoring and mooring rope operations
    - Complex and challenging missions, like chasing other ships, container loading and rescue operations
    - Free-roam option: select a ship, a sailing environment, set the weather and wave conditions, and start sailing!

  • System requirements:
    Quote:

    Minimum Requirements
    - Windows XP or Vista
    - 2.4 Ghz Intel® Pentium® IV or AMD® Athlon™ processor
    - 1 GB RAM
    - 4x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
    - Approx. 500 MB free hard disk space
    - 128 MB 3D accelerated video card with support for Vertex and Pixel shader 1.1. (nVidia GeForce 5900, ATI Radeon 9800 or comparable)

    Recommended Requirements
    - Windows XP or Vista
    - 3 GHz Intel® Pentium® IV or AMD® Athlon™ processor
    - 2 GB RAM
    - 4x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
    - Approx. 500 MB free hard disk space
    - 256 MB 3D accelerated video card with support for Vertex and Pixel shader 1.1. (nVidia GeForce 6800, ATI Radeon X800 pro or comparable)

Microsoft should really sue them for their graphic design. Clearly trying to emulate (and piggy back) the Flight Simulator design scheme.

Polosistealth, you don't need to be retarded to enjoy a simulator. Some people love Flight Simulator, some people love Ship Simulator, some people love racing simulators. Your assumptions make only you look retarded.

And I agree with Ispep, their logo and box-art is definitely similar to Flight Simulator's. I can only wonder why Microsoft hasn't sued (or, more commonly, bought) them already.

Layout cannot be sued for.

Train sims can be fun for a little while just to see how trains work and so on, but so far the scenery isnt so nice that it makes you want to look around. I love sims but i don't play train or ship sims. I do love flightsims though...
Sims are great if you are that kinda person who likes them, and you got to appreciate the vehicle/whatever the sim is about to get something out of it.

• A system for sinking ships when damaged below the water line
• Advanced system for scoring and ranking in different ship type classes, linked to your on-line profile on the forum
• Two extra player ships: jet-ski and hovercraft
• Additional language versions of the game (French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish and more)
• Set waypoints yourself in free-roaming mode
