Yes, these warnings are not important it seems. Try installing the redistributables, especially vcredist.msi from the halo 2 dvd before the install.

EDIT: I am using the razor repack release.

EDIT 2: About the difficulty selection ... I could and did change the difficulty (I wanted to check out the different descriptions) Finally I selected "normal"

EDIT 3: I have english XP pro sp2 with all the critical updates installed.

That might be the problem then, I'm using the original Razor release.. I'll go grab the repack and give it a go.

I installed the Redist.'s first thing, hehe!

Thanks for the input.

I wonder if I can just extract and compile the .iso with the new .exe.. I'll give that a try.

edit: that worked.. Smile I used magic iso.

Now I'm getting an error about a missing framedyn.dll file, but it's there, did some googling and trying to fix the path.. I'll update if it fixes it

Edit 2: fixed the pathing issue, it's installing right now.. On another note, you guys who are having problems with single player, there's a hack or patch out there that enables single player, or something to that effect.. Anyone tried that?

Can't seem to get past the 11th level either since during level change the game asks for the original CD, even tried the Blindwrite clone and it's the same thing and from other posts in this thread it seems I'm not the only one stopped by this. (Guess a proper mini-image or fixed crack will be needed.)

It's a good continuation from Halo even if it's a little dated compared to recent titles.
(Looks great compared to the previous game though and the AI is still quite sharp and the taunts and combat chatter can be really funny sometimes, especially those grunts and the marine sergeant.)

Sigh, just when I was about to kill those two.
(But from reading the Halo 3 storyline on the official site it seems that didn't work out as intended and from various reviews of Halo 2 it seems the ending is a little too sudden.)

EDIT: Slight edit to avoid minor spoilers.

  • Which release of the game did you use?
  • Which operating system are you using for your Halo 2?
  • Which version of Daemon-Tools are you using?
  • Which SPDT version are you using?
I'm stuck at the same place and have even tried a BW copy of Halo 2 with no luck Sad.

Here's what I did, and it worked for me (XP Pro w/SP2, ATI card). Keep in mind this is what I did to get the game to install and start, I haven't actually played through the game yet.

1. Extracted the razor release ISO to hard drive, then substituted the fixed startup.exe file from the iND release. Install the redistributables mentioned in the previous posts FIRST before attempting the installation. Copied mf.dll to x:\windows\system32\ folder. Repacked the new ISO using MagicISO with the same name as the original razor ISO (don't think the name matters actually). The only thing changed here is the new startup.exe has replaced the one in the razor release.

2. Mount the ISO with the latest Daemon Tools (v4.09HE with Sptd 1.49 Beta ) with all emulation options on. Run loader.exe on the DVD on startup.exe using customized installation. Game installed fine using the "Full install, don't run game" option...got no warnings, the game installed perfectly.

3. Copied all of the loader files (including the .dll files as mentioned in the readme.txt) for the loader to the game root folder and created a batch file with these lines:

@echo
CLS
loader.exe halo2.exe

The loader and game executable are in the same folder, so no need to specify any path. I then created a shortcut on my desktop to the batch file and changed to icon to the halo2 icon Wink.

Executing the batch file successfully starts the game. You are prompted to create a Live profile, and then taken to the main menu. I'll follow up if I have any gameplay issues.

Hope this helps. I don't know if this will overcome the stuck level problem or not, this is just to get the game installed.

EDITED TO ADD: getting a lot of crashes to desktop in 1st level, which sucks because of the checkpoint save system.

Those instructions will help when starting the game and they will probably allow the player to get past the introduction level since there seems to be a check there wich Razor's modified .dll file fixes, unfortunatively there's a second check directly at the start of the 12th level and so far nothing has worked.

Unsure if it's the same problem with razors release on Windows Vista though but it's probably the same situation.

I actually cant get past the first level on the razor repack on winxp. It asks me to activate after the bomb delivery cutscene. how do you get past that one?

Im using the files from the nogrp loader with the disc unmounted.

Put the MF.dll by nogrp in the win/sys32 folder
Put the Razor MF.dll into the game folder

Strange, I had that activation screen when I used the XP hack but it dissapeared when I replaced the MF.dll with Razors cracked dll file and then placed the XP hack version of the dll into the Windows/System32 folder as instructed further back in this thread.

Seems a few other people have similar issues as well so perhaps it's somewhat random when the game checks stuff like the disc and activation though there are probably fixed checks as well, maybe the crack isn't fully working? (Don't really know what the MF.dll file does and the main Halo2.exe was left untouched while Startup.exe was replaced with Razors fixed copy.)

EDIT: Seems I'm a little late, the above post explains what's needed.

So is it a bad crack ? No one seems to be able to get past the level 11 (except if you have the clone I guess.)

I don't get it, how that would work without a crack.
Without a crack the game needs to be activated to get pass the first levels.

I tried a Blindwrite copy, but the game stil asks for the original disc when trying to load level 12.

I have almost the same setup except for sptd, which says 1.50. Maybe that is the problem Smile.
