Drugs are already being tested which can do just that. It sends you into a ultra deep sleep for 2 hours and after you're completely rested.
They still need to do extended trials though to ensure there are no long term problems that may arise after like a year of daily use.
Sleeping away a third of your life can seem like a waste, but dreaming can be a nice escape from reality some times.

In my opinion sleeping is more than just giving your body physical rest.
Sleep is an unbeatable form of mental resting.
Just think of depressive people, most of them sleep a lot more than
normal ppl in order to forget about their problems.
Being awake the whole day means being confronted with problems all
day long.

Same here... I think I have insomnia, I keep waking up in the middle of the night and I'm tired as hell when I actually do wake up.
But I do agree sleep is a waste of time. Considering most of us will die at the ages of 75 to 80 (average life expectancy) or younger, we waste 1/3 of that time sleeping. That's 26 years of nothing but lying on your bed unconscious. That thought just makes me sad...

Sometimes I don't sleep well but when I do I love it. Who could give up sleeping in once in a while?

I wish I could get in the testing program for that! I too think sleep is a huge waste of time, I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to.
