The main issue about doing that would be that EVERY level will say "please insert the original Halo 2 disc" after trying to enter level 12 so the only thing wich would work would probably be to move or delete the current savegame since it has the information regarding the highest level the player has entered so deleting or moving it should reset whatever trigger that causes this to happen.
(Unsure if other people have the same problem but it's probably like that for everyone without activated account and original disc, just try the usual select level option but choose any level aside from Gravemind.)

did not work for me either. bullshit. the files are identical anyway, so it could not have been corrupted during installation.
JBeckman: I don't get your point. all other levels work, except gravemind, even after the ungzip thing.

Really? guess something else is interfering then because as soon as I reach the Gravemind level and get the usual insert disc message I can't play the game anymore since any level I attempt to play after getting the above message will now show the same insert the original disc message, I have to manually delete the current savegame and start over to be able to play the game again after reaching that point.
(Happens on the Select level / Resume last save screen, rather annoying but there's not much I can do about it for now.)

I kind of suspect the people who claim the ungzip trick worked for them are simply lying to promote that little program. To get people to download it.

gzip isn't a program that can be downloaded and promoted, it's a friggin compression format. Open source at that.
I kinda suspect you're an idiot.

I kinda suspect it's YOU who's the idiot, judging by how you ignored what I meant even though you knew it, in order to attack me and leave the impression of a smart guy. Nice try though.
I know it's a compression format. I was referring to that specific program on filefront, the link of which was passed around. Just speculation, but seeing how it doesn't work for most people, its maker may be trying to simply promote it (not the whole compression format, but that program) by claiming it fixes the issue.
lequack: did you ungzip all of the files or just 07a_highcharity? did you use the exe from filefront or something else? do you have the image mounted or did you burn it? which release?

I ungzipped 07a_highcharity.map.dtz and single_player_shared.map.dtz.
Also, I do not have the patch installed (nudity patch or something). Just so you know it works: http://lequack.freepgs.com/video.php?name=halo2_2
I used the exe from filefront, and the image is mounted. The release is Razor repacked one.

Okay. Mine is burnt, but I'm gonna make it into an image and try mounting. Dunno why it would matter though, since the razor release isn't a clone anyway.
Nope, no effect again.

And sacrifice so much performance? It's just not enjoyable to play it in vista at 10 fps. And don't go telling me to buy a new computer. It's not a hardware issue, it's a software - namely vista - issue.

This is how I got pass that 12th level cd check:
1. Go to your Halo 2/maps folder.
2. Copy 06b_floodzone.map and 07a_highcharity.map to a safe location just in case.
3. Rename 06b_floodzone.map to 06b_floodzone.map.bak
4. Rename 07a_highcharity.map to 06b_floodzone.map
5. Start Halo 2 and go to Campaign-->Select Level
6. Select Quarantine Zone, it should still give you the error message.
7. Exit Halo 2 and now rename 06b_floodzone.map back to 07a_highcharity.map
8. Rename 06b_floodzone.map.bak back to 06b_floodzone.map
9. Start Halo again and now select Gravemind level.
10. It should now work!

AntiJesus wrote: | If one is still interested to get it going after 12th...there seems to be a workaround in here (look at the comments). It seems the problem is in the installer and all you have to do is to replace "07a_highcharity.map" file from your DVD (maps folder) using (and here is where I gaved up) "ungzip" and decompress it your Halo 2/maps folder replacing the original...
So...if anyone is brave enough to test this (keylogger/trojan?)
Yeah, I know I'm way too paranoid | It worked .
Thanks for the tip.
But it's strange....
I can't use resume on level 11(the end of it) to go to level 12 after the cutscene.
I can't after that load the level manually.
Both above generate the insert original disc prompt.
But if take out that file that is mentioned in the comments and extract the contents with that little software, and put in in my maps folder, it works , but only one time .
If i save at level 12 at any checkpoint and later restart the game, the same problem occurs again and i need to put the extracted map back into the maps folder(i have saved a copy of the extracted map so i don't have to unzip everytime), but the checkpoint save works .
So once again, thanks for the tip . Maybe on level 13-->end i won't need this fix.
It sounds more as a installation fault then a copy protection.
EDIT: I don't know if the levels after level 12 need that fix, because I never stopped playing until i got to the end .
EDIT: Forgot to mention that the file i exctracted the map from did not come from razors release, but a BlindWrite copy. Maybe the map is broken on the razor release.

i came across some .bat files that swaps the maps but i dunno if they work after level 12 since im in 8th Spoiler: | first one played as a covenant | but i have some wicked version by dopeman of H2 so i can play on xp (yeah i know there is another solution but here i have .nfo file so i dont need to look for it) resume doesnt works when u r using that kind of solution but H2 is so ill skip resume function here is info file on those .bat files
Spoiler: | QUICK NOTE: READ FULL INSTRUCTIONS ATLEAST ONCE
QUICK INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Extract the 4 (batch) files into the MAPS folder in your Halo installation folder.
2. RUN THE BATCH FILE FIRST!!!!!!!!! THEN RUN THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!! These files will
rename the maps for you automatically, so follow the procedure properly!
3. When you're done its CRITICAL that you press "ENTER" or any other key to close the
batch file - DO NOT CLOSE THE FILE BEFORE THEN! OTHERWISE YOUR MAPS WILL SCREW-UP....
If you screw up, read below on how to fix it...
**************************************************************************************
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Place the files (as mentioned above) in the maps folder DIRECTLY (dont create
any more sub-folders): C:\Games\Halo2\Maps\<PLACE FILES IN THE MAPS FOLDER DIRECTLY>
2. The first three levels are playable by default - first one being a movie, second
is a tutorial on walking and running, and the third is where you first encounter and
fight the covenant - after this level you will need to unlock the game, to play on...
To play the fourth level, run the batch file - LET IT CONTINUE TO RUN - and click on
the first level (THE HERETIC) and you'll be playing the fourth level instead. To play
the fifth level, you would run the second playable level and you'll play fifth instead
of second level; and to play the sixth level, you'd run the third level.
Since the names of the maps are renamed, you will be able to play the fourth as first,
fifth as second, sixth as third.
3. If you wish to play the next set of maps, you can ALT+TAB out when you're in the
MAIN MENU - DO NOT END THE BATCH FILE BEFORE THE GAME HAS RETURNED YOU TO THE MAIN
MENU, OR YOU HAVE QUIT THE GAME COMPLETELY!
4. Press enter, or any other key to successfully "END" the batch file - DO NOT CLICK
THE CLOSE BUTTON - THIS WILL SCREW UP THE NAMING SEQUENCE!
5. Run the next set of batch files - and follow steps 2, 3 and 4.
**************************************************************************************
HOW TO GET OUT OF A SCREW-UP!!!
1. You can screw up the sequence if you do the following:
- Close the batch file (click the close button)
- Press CTRL+C to terminate the job
- Press the "enter" button, to end the job prematurely while the game is still
using the files (you're still playing a level when you quit the map).
2. FIXING THE ERROR:
- If you accidentally clicked the close button, you can just run the same file
once again and the files will get renamed back - but this time, make sure you
close it improperly again. (So if you closed it improperly the first time, run
it again, and close it improperly the second time too)
- If you accidentally closed the window while a map is running, dont worry, just
close the map down, and follow the step mentioned above.
- If you "PROPERLY" quit the file while the map is still running - you will need
to manually rename the file-pair that was messed up (3-6, or 2-14, or 3-9)
- If all else fails, file size is mentioned below. Click on an individual map, and
make sure that it has the same file size as the one mentioned below. Since each
different map has a different file size, its easy to spot them, and apply the
appropriate name.
3. FILE SIZES (Bytes) to get to MB, divide them by 1048576, to check file size in bytes
right click on file, and go to properties, and check file size there.
00a_introduction.map - 102491648
01a_tutorial.map - 62932480
01b_spacestation.map - 230330368
03a_oldmombasa.map - 197725184
03b_newmombasa.map - 214178816
04a_gasgiant.map - 193112064
04b_floodlab.map - 206246912
05a_deltaapproach.map - 194494464
05b_deltatowers.map - 204015104
06a_sentinelwalls.map - 220246528
06b_floodzone.map - 224458752
07a_highcharity.map - 291411968
07b_forerunnership.map - 181724672
08a_deltacliffs.map - 153054720
08b_deltacontrol.map - 257914880
4. This should fix the problem 100%, however if you still don't understand what just
happened, you may want to remove and reinstall the game, and purchase it and support
the people who made it (purchase it even if you get this working, multiplayer is
awesome, and the people deserve the money!) This is just a temporary fix. |
AMD 64 3800+ ~2.7Ghz, 2GB Ram, GF 7800gs + bliss 512 RAM...
