Movies based on Stephen King are aither great or terrible. Let's hope this ends up in the great bracket. I really like both Cusack and Sam L, so it's got potential.

Well. It was OK. 6/10
edit: wrong score.
Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

Star Mary McCormack spilled the beans to Bloody-Disgusting that there were two ending shot for 1408, one that spells out a different fate for John Cusack's character Mike Enslin, who finds himself trapped in a haunted hotel room with the clock counting down from 60:00.
Director Mikael Håfström, who tells us is a big fan of Bloody-Disgusting, confirmed the news also adding that the other ending was too much of a "downer". He also tells us that the DVD will contain numerous deleted scenes.

i think the downer ending woulda been alot better, the ending that they went was a bit mehwhocares sorta. i was pretty scared during the first half but it all got a bit too paranormal on my ass and lost momentum at the end. im quite proud of myself cos i watched the film by myself and im a total pussy when it comes to scary films

Director's cut according to the menu at least, saw it last night.
7/10, Cusack was great and the script was pretty well written. It has many similarities with The Shining when it comes to setting, but it's not a copycat.
What is the deal with the endings? This one was on the MPTDVD:
Spoiler: | The clock starts counting down from 60 again, and Mike sets the place on fire, including himself. Everyone is evacuated and you see 1408 blows to pieces with Mike in it. You then see the funeral for Mike, and Gerald trying to give some personal belongings (the tape recorder, etc) to Lily who doesn't want it. You then see Gerald sitting in his car by the road at the funeral playing the tape recorder. He then looks in the mirror and see a burned up and crispy Mike, and then Katie running around the graveyard.l |
What is the other one?

The movie aint that surprising and seems to crack down tension faster then that it was brought up. Further more the idea of being locked up in a hotel room witch seems to be completly normal at first is a fun idea and you can create a bit bigger creep factor on it when you dont start tearing the room down so fast, missed point if you ask me there.
I do have to say one more thing about it, the way that they tried to make you think that it was all a mind game doesnt work in this movie......or maybe they didnt tred for that and I miss inturpeted it;/
I have seen it in the cinema and I cant say that it had the best visual quality there either, might have something to do with the cinema ofc...but still. They do not play alot with different filters or anything but I did get the idea that they might have downgraded the visuals a bit on purpose.

Spoiler: |
he gets well after burning the room, gets back with his wife and then when everything is almost sweet and clear he finds the charred tape recorder, plays the tape and they both (with the wife) hear the daughter talking. Shocked faces and fade to black.

Why doesn't it work?

Because nothing in the room links back properly to a sane state of mind, everything just piles up and he keeps asking the same thing.."am I making this up?" so basicly adding the recorder at the end only makes it more clear then nesserry.
