Visual release used xvid custom quantifier matrix, making the movie
unwatchable on some players ( ex. http://tinyurl.com/2zztun ).
Enjoy a better encode (video and synched audio) from our own source
(not stolen from german groups). |

New Spider-Man 3.1 cut will be included with upcoming Blu-ray collection. http://comicbook.com/marvel/2017/05/01/original-spider-man-movies-getting-blu-ray-re-releases/
People have been asking for a director's cut for years, which would include the many deleted scenes and would be closer to Raimi's original vision.
However this cut is 2 minutes shorter than the theatrical. So it will be interesting to see if Raimi just deleted a scene or two that bothered him, or it's a more radical cut with various edits and replacements (probably not?).
For what is worth I thought Spider-Man 2.1 was worse than the theatrical.

Only the last one sounds like an improvement.
Tbh there is too much wrong with the film for mere editing to fix.

Some responses by the editor of both the theatrical cut and this release that explain why this version even exists:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=13653689&postcount=1215
The implication is this is based on an earlier cut they had completed back in the day, but eventually they shot some new stuff (like the Aunt May scene which is missing from this new version) so when they put them in the film it became too long and they had to remove some other stuff. With this adding and deleting, parts of the score were also affected.
So this cut is based on their early cut they had completed before any reshoots, and as such also features the entirety of the score that was originally composed for it.
Because fans have been wanting to see the numerous deleted scenes they had heard existing for this film for years they might be disappointed this isn't an extended cut that puts them back in, but the editor says "Not in my opinion. The movie is better shorter."
And isn't that the case for most bad films?

I guess that explains why John Debney and Deborah Lurie were brought in to write additional music.
I hope one day that Christopher Young's score will get a full release. There was so much great music left off the promo disc, but apparently the legal side is too messy
