And I thought DICE was slow with patches for battlefields, or Blizzard was slow with patches for WoW. But this one just tops them all.

Yeah, as if Microsoft has anything to do with a patch. Unless ATARI is planning on releasing special NVidia drivers for TDU and needs Microsoft to WHQL them, then it's just another excuse.

it seems there are two unofficial patches (well, they are beta versions of atari patches) around. 1.64 and 1.66. it may mess online play etc. but various people reported it works, even online, as they were seen in the two new cars.
my shitty rig:
athlon 64 3500+

fixes most of crashes, improves performance, fixes the corrupted savegame problem, and introduces anti-cheat measure for online play.
well thats for the incoming official one, but users are reporting improved performance even with the unofficial one.

Performance is good even w/o a patch, the only annoying thing is split second lag when AI racers appear on screen.

My PC is far from good P4 3.2, 2gb, 7600GT and I can run it smooth maxed out (no HDR) @ 2xAA 4xAniso 1280x720. By smooth I mean framerate doesn't drop below 30.

I have a "decent rig" and it would still "split second lag" from time to time. You kinda get used to it after a few minutes.
