Why ? to this day there aren`t games that use 256ram textures - weird exception of it is GRAW and its unrealistic ultra textures that turn on on a 512ram card , and most of games use the computers ram which in case of vista will be 3gigs to run games on normal speeds when 1 gig is eaten by the system . |
Why would you approach a video card purchase with flawed logic like that? It makes no sense to me. |
this was a argument why a 512 ram card was not worth buying in 2005 but now in 2007 when the console world has 512ram cards and we see more and more ports from those consoles - Lost planet , all Ubisoft games - that really use the rest of the gfx ram (Dx10 and the new HD standard ) , this cards are a "must buy" now , but only when the prices will be reasonable

If people are buying an 8800GTX it's safe to assume they're probably not planning on getting a new card for a year or two at least. They're going to want it to be as future proof as possible, and the video RAM is one aspect of that.

ZOMG but there are only 2 games that need so much ram... Why, oh why, did I buy this card? I should have bought an FX5200 instead!

because everyone now jumped onto the dx10 Weed Train thinking Crysis will be in 2007 ,
will buy one in 2008-2009 when drivers will be less buggy and those cards will be real worth the buy (they will be games that run dx10) |
Yeah, like I bought the GTX just for DX10...

60 in one test, 40 on other I think, don't remember (in DX10 of course)...
Maybe I'll check temps later, don't have much time now.
I have a C2D E6600, 2GB of RAM and a GTX.

My eyes have an automatic crap-removal filter. They just show "[DUMB POST]" instead of your posts...

RAM doesn't make the card as fast as GTX (plus GTX has more RAM ). I suggest you read this for more information.

The GTS is exactly 25% less then the GTX, price wise, Shader, ROPS, etc.

They are all basically identical. Only thing that differs between brands is the box and bundle as well as the clock speeds in certain cases. (If that makes a temp difference)
EDIT: Oh yeah and I use eVGA.

First of all I hope my question isn't too dumb.....
I wanna get a new DX10 card, an 8800gtx probably. DX10 has just born and I know it gonna be improved in no time. My question is: is it posible that they change some major thing on DX10 so that this new cards couldn't be able to handle by hardware?
I've seen in some games requirements this: 'DX9c compatible cards'. Is there any dx9 card that isn't compatible with dx9c?
in conclusion:
could they release a new dx10b or c anytime soon and make these cards obsolete to handle dx10 games that use it?
I know this card is great and fast. And I wanna keep it for at least 2-3 years. I dont care if I wont be able to run games all setting high at 60fps in 3 years. But I do care if I won't be able to run it at all due to DX10 modifications.
