|
 |
My setup on XP Pro:
Wireless Internet Connection
Local Area Network
Both are connected. Now, when both are connected, my internet auto takes control of my ethernet connection internet. However, I want it to use my WIFI (because it will be free).
So, I disable Local Area Network. Once I do that, my wifi connects to an outside network- good! But, when I try to connect to my xbox using FlashFXP - it cant find it. Xbox is connected thru router using ethernet.
My goal is to stop using my internet connection on my LAN line. But, my xbox is connected to my router which I still need to use. I want to use my WIFI card to connect to outside network.
I already tried disabling TCP/IP only on my lan- still cant connect to xbox.
How do I use WIFI and connect to my ethernet xbox at same time?

Get a router, so that your computer isn't handling your internet. That will solve your problem.

I already have a router. Netgear 5 port. Its not wireless. I have a ethernet cable from my nic card going into modem. Modem goes into router. My router also connects to xbox.
I think its impossible. I will need to manually disable my WIFI connection and activate my LAN in order to use xbox. Once im done with xbox, disable LAN and activate WIFI. I dont think its possible to use both connections at once.

My router is wireless. So, I dont know what my problem is.
2 connections show up in network neighboorhood
When both are active at same time - it auto defualts to pick up my LAN internet. When I disable the LAN, it auto picks up from my WIFI. But then, I cant use any of my devices connected into my wireless router using the ethernet ports (my xbox is not wifi).

In the network settings on your computer change the LAN from DHCP to fixed and give it an appropriate IP address and network mask. Make sure you leave gateway empty.
That way your computer will only be able to use the internet over wireless, but still access devices in the LAN. Your xbox will behave normally and connect over the LAN to internet.

'Appropriate IP address' - What do you recommend? I put in an internal IP address but it didnt work..192.168.0.xx
What I realized is I dont need my modem or router anymore. So I unplugged both. I will conenct my ethernet xbox direct to nic card inside PC.
After doing this, will this still show as 2 seperate networks? Any recommendations on setup?

You can only make a bridge between 2 LANS or 2 WLANS. You cant bridge a LAN and WLAN together.
With that being said, I am just enabling the WLAN network when needed. All I need to do is plug in my router to enable the LAN. Since I only use XBOX to transfer files - this will work. I save $ by not needing my router plugged in anymore and also not needing my modem plugged in anymore.
Thanks for all your help!
