I'm telling you, even on my 15.4" laptop monitor I see the difference. I just can't stand that crappy and blurry xvid quality.

OK, I see your point. I don't have HDTV and I can't stand the quality of the regular TV, so when I watch movies on my monitor, I see great deal of difference. But yes, I sit closer to my monitor than my TV.

Not really, if it's shot on 35mm film then it's still a higher res than 1080p.

Maybe - but the high res doesnt really always mean high quality.

300 2006 720p BluRay x264 PROPER-hV
They say it has a higher bitrate than the Septic release.
Though it's double the size.

Dror, I'd wait for the Esir release (not scene). None of those Spetic/hV releases are worth download.

They know what they are doing. Plus, it will have a 1.5Mbps DTS soundtrack.

yeah people are more likely to have a larger screen to make use of hd video, than they are to have a decent sound setup to make good use of dts...

I hope someone up's a 720p HDWMV of 300, almost every new movie does get transcoded that way of us 360 owners. I see there is one now but it's NL Hardcoded, that is the dumbest thing iv'e ever seen I dont understand why they most HARDCODE IT.

Well I hope you were referring to Leo cause I didn't say the group sucks, just that I lost respect for them after releasing a shitty copy of Serenity....
The movie audio was near impossible to get working. Instead of using a codec half the million of the world has, they used some half assed codec that was almost impossible to find, had to install a bunch of 3rd party bullshit, and on top of that you had to uninstall just about anything video/audio related and reinstall it in a certain order including the 3rd party crap just to get audio for the movie. I spent almost a week researching and trying to get it to work before I gave up and grabbed the LsE (whoever the hell they are) release.

Chiv, I'm a member of a certain HD torrents site, which has its own cappers, rippers and encoders (Esir releases come from there), and I'm telling you, their releases are just not up to standard. Cropping is often done wrong, either the movies are encoded so that all detail is lost (like in the 300 release, it looks like an upconvert of the dvd ffs) or they over use the sharpening, and then you have the reverse effect, where the picture is too grainy. I am picky, what can I say, but since I can, why shouldn't I?
If you don't want to wait for the Esir 720p release (which will have that glorified DTS track), get the HV release, which it at least much better than the Septic crap. Personally, I'm getting the 26GB HDDVD for all the extras.

well to be fair, i was just asking a question. being in nz we just dont 'do' hd over here, so i have nothing to really compare it against. its good to have someone in the know who can tell me whats shite and whats not, so how about we elect you as 'keeper of the hd coolness' so that you can tell me which releases are good. and if that sounds like sarcasm, it aint, im genuinely interested in which releases are best, because quality matters to me. i can spot a shit xvid encode, just not any hd ones yet.

Hey man, lol, even if that was sarcasm, I wouldn't be offended. I'm too picky when it comes to video/audio quality, and sometimes I expect others to be like that as well, so yeah, I deserve it. But yeah, you will notice the difference in HD stuff when you start watching them often. Personally, I can't even stand DVD quality anymore, let alone xvid.
