well Starcraft is maybe months away?
but i'm pretty sure Diablo III is FAR from being in any pre-alpha state.
but then again, we didn't know crap about Starcraft II until a couple of months ago and it was well advanced already.

Actually StarCraft 2 is pre-alpha as well

It's doubtful that Blizzard would confirm that, heck until a couple of months ago Starcraft 2 wasn't even being developed, turns out it has been in developement since 2003.
There's definitely going something on, Wrath of the Lich King were the title that we MIGHT have heard about on Blizzcon, and the new game would be the one we WOULD hear about on Blizzcon.
Perhaps they decided to trade places on those announcements?
One could also speculate on why they showed an in-game trailer instead of a cinematic, it atleast could mean that the Cinematics team is busy completing something else.

Well new rumors arise again, this time http://www.diablo3.eu (Domain owned by Blizzard) returns 403 Forbidden, just like they did with Wrath of the Lich King.
