Task at work... Restore data from a damaged Maxtor HDD. The only problem is that its detected in both bios and windows. But it doesn't pop up. Not at the disk manager either. It just uses some time to search, and after some time the primary HDD pops up. Iv even tried to boot up with knoppix; can't detect it with that either. One time I tried to boot with a 2000 CD (OS installed on that disk) and the CHKDISK started, found alot of damaged sectors, some alive... came to step 2 and got "unspesified error" or something like that. I can't use "Get Data Back" just from finding it in the bios and in Windows. When I say find, I don't mean it pop up, just possible to find. Its a Sata disk btw. So is it possible to restore the data without calling iBas ? Because that is to damn expensive.

tried test disk 6.7? i had a problem a while back where my hdd couldnt be accessed, it just kept asking me if i wanted to format the drive, but i had 300 gb of crap on that drive... tried test disk and it got everything fixed... i love that little program...

Could be damaged boot sectors? Upcoming PC games 2009 and onwards Bravery is not a function of firepower.

Doesn't get it up like that either, just under hardware when I right click on the other disk. Can't see it under "My Computer" So is there any boot programs that can fix what they detect? :\

You have gone into Disk Management (Right click my computer, choose manage?) Might be corrupted entirely and is listed as an unformatted drive. In which case you'll need some HD recovery tools and if the data is extremely sensitive, youll need some sort of rebuilding kit and take the HD apart etc

No, its not there. ONLY in BIOS and the name pops up under "hardware" (on a tab when you go to properties on a disk or a CD/DVD drive. No other place... nothing to do with it.

So yeah, guess its fucked. :\

Tried "Partition Table Doctor"? It checks and repairs mbr, partition table, boot sector of partition error, etc. I had some issue like that and afair this then GetDataBack did the trick.

I can't really tell you, i only have some old version -3.0- from acme.
edit: actually "The only limitation is that DEMO version can not write to disk" which means it won't fix anything, it will only tell you what he finds and may be able to recover if you buy it.
The retail version is just a different setup, no activation, keygen or crack.
