Now, i've had this problem with the demo version. First time i started it, after the first diving scene, my screen got all black and i had to restart my computer. Then, i've started it again, went to options and set all the gfx to low/off, except textures, which were set to medium, and, again, started the game. It ran great, but, just as i finished the submarine "intro", my computer crashed, again, and i had to restart it, again!
What's the problem?
Is my pc spec too low or i need the nvidia fix or smth? |
You should try installing the latest nvidia driver (163.44).
I had the same problem, that's what I did and it's now working (though it still didn't work for another guy) |
that other guy is me hehe! still same here

Same here, but after clean uninstall of demo, than nvidia driver (163.44), than insatlling the demo again it works just fine with my poor GF 7900 GS lol.
With all graphic options on max, i have a lot of stuttering ( just before action starts ), but with medium setting i have quite nice performance...

Damn, i missed that plasmid in the bathroom... Oh well, it was the demo anyways, so more content for me to explore once I get my hands on it.
Thx for the hints and the link for the plasmids guide!
I just hope the game arrives here on the release date... Damn country, when it comes to games Portugal is just sad... A major retailer only got 3 copies of quake 4 one week after the game was released!

Oh? If this is _really_ an official statement, then, well, our bitchin' gone wrong somewhere.
As far as I understood, system just checks your account every time you launch the game to make sure everything is alright (as well as legit game copy in your DVD-ROM). Actually, allowing to have two instances installed simultaneosly is a step towards gamers, not against them.
Now I wonder if it's correct for Steam version only or d2d-users and retail owners can sleep peacefully too.

so you haven't found any workaround yet?
that might be pointless asking so, but what's your AV?
cause the 1st time I had NOD32 running, and the game crashed while it was updating. since then I've always kept it disabled while playing...although I doubt that's what's causing the crash

hmm i posted this in the other thread but since i didn't wanna plough my way through 50+ pages looking for the reply(if i even got any) ill just ask again here.
my mouse is too sensitive and even when i crank it down to 1 it's still too high... is there any way to force a lower sensitivity with this game(or with any FPS games in general since it also happens with them)?

In your Bioshock.ini located in your Application Data Folder change the following settings - that should do the trick
ReduceMouseLag=false
DoubleBufferMouseLag=false

I can understand how this can work for the Steam version. Its an online application and can sync with the servers (about the uninstall). But with the retail you have it installed and playing offline fx on a holiday - you uninstall the game but have no internetconnection at the time - how on earth will they then know you have an extra install possible again after this?

Well, thats good news about Steam! Being able to have two installations at the same thing does seem like a step forward.
I was hoping to pre-load it on Steam, but it doesnt seem to be working. I'll decide if I want to buy it on the friday.

The EU release date, and i suppose when the activation server for the EU version goes up, is Fri 24th. Total bullshit that we have to wait 3 days ofcourse, but what else is new.

Its not really down to Steam, its the same deal with the retail both have securom online activation. There is also a sort of deactivation during uninstallation.

ok guys... I bought BioShock for PC last night on steam.
For everyone that claimed that BioShock on PC ran like crap... what kinda system were u running... lol... It runs amazing for me on 1024 resolution on all high settings (no DX10 since im on XP) and I'm not even at recommended requirements...
Here's my system specs
GeForce 8800GTS OC 320MB
AMD Athlon 64 3600+
1GB DDR2 RAM
Windows XP Home
I get around 50FPS average... If I play for a long time, I get massive stuttering in Menus though but thats because of my RAM most likely. Other than that, I get an occasional hitch during quick cutscenes, also due to the 1GB of RAM. So seriously... did those with the Higher spec PCs even PLAY the game? Or did they play it without the newest drivers...

alright cool... i'll try that.
as for changing the settings in windows i've already done it since the sensitivity was insane from the moment i plugged it in... anyways it doesn't affect games.

oh sorry lol... im still a little tired... just woke up... was revolving around my own little world again...
Well I HAVE been hearing that the ATI cards are starting to do terrible... They are reverting to the days when nVidia was king of drivers and cards while ATi was lacking and causing issues...
All I seem to hear about the new ATi cards is bad news.
EDIT: And no, the editor is not in... its not in retail either I heard... it's going to be added at a later date.
