You could try to activate through Pacsteam.

Oh, and BTW, there are some european countries where activation servers have been working since the 21st. Poland is an example. So it might work for you too.

You sound like you've been personally invading Ubisoft's office and beaten their CEO to shit unless he agreed to get rid of Starforce.

This looks pathetic, really. Stop posing. And renew your fucking order.

Everyone's actually bitchin' about protection system identical to Steam, but it DOESN'T force you to install some useless shitty software and wait for it downloading a 700mb patch (which Steam consider extremely needed) over the damn planet.

You just have activation key instead of accout name and a text field to enter it instead of third-party software.

"Limited installations" thing looks ridiculous, I agree. But that's not the fucking reason to act like you've been raped by someone.

P.S. and remember, SecuRom's developers were paid long ago. The only ones suffering from your protection-related brain damage are 2k Games and Irrational. They've made a good game actually, so be good boys & girls, buy it.

P.P.S. here, in Russia, we will receive Bioshock translated by local distributor. "Rapture city" became... "Aquatown". Damn it, I'll have to import game for $60+ instead of buying local legit copy for $15. Sad

have you installed the new NVidia BETA drivers? 163.44 I believe.

I used to have that same crashing problem before, until I installed the drivers.

You have no point. Systems are pretty similar to each other, as I wrote before.

The only disturbing thing is unsolved problem with "losing" activation due to inproper uninstalling, but seriously, this isn't worth all that shit throwing. Cut it out already.

Developers, by the way, may be searching ways to remove this limit:
Some dev on official forums wrote:
I believe some concerns are quite valid and some are extremely subjective. With the approval of our bosses at 2k, we will be doing what we can to address the valid concerns and will be seriously considering the more subjective concerns. We've stated our aesthetic position on some topics, but we would never question any customers right to disagree with our views.

We're _not_ making promises on any particular issue, but currently nothing is off the table for discussion here either here or at 2k.

I think "valid" and "subjective" concerns are "activation" and "widescreen" respectively.

Some believe that one of this concerns is SM2.0 support (oh God, I wish this were true), but that's totally impossible.

For SM2.0 owners - that folks already managed to launch Bioshock with terrible load times and half textures broken, but it works! They say crack is necessary for further progress, because SecuRom tracks file's integity.

Sobaka13 wrote:
It'll be kinda ironic in an evil way if beside crappy translation and SecuROM, we'll also get StarForce like on 95% of our localization as an final bonus.

We got used to this crap anyway. Smile And there's no point in buying this "awesome" localization as well.

8/22/07 - DRMShock

By Dan Stapleton, Senior Associate Editor

Yesterday began as a joyous day. By the whim of the mailroom gods, my copy of BioShock was the first to arrive at my desk. After I finished dancing around the room rubbing it in everyone's face, we needed to install it on a DX9 and a DX10 machine to compare.

"But wait," I said. "This product requires activation. What if, by installing it here, I cripple my copy and am unable to play from home? "So Greg called the 2K support line and talked to a support rep, who told him that it would be fine as long as we uninstalled the game before installing it on another machine. Ok, that's fine... a little annoying considering the game also has a DVD check to make sure the disc is in the drive, but I can handle that.

So we installed on one machine, then uninstalled and installed on another with no problems. So far, so good. I got in about an hour of play time, but I do the majority of my game playing at home, where I've got my heavy-duty gaming rig set up, so I was really looking forward to bringing it home with me. I uninstalled the game from my work machine and happily headed home...but when I got there and went to activate, I was stopped dead by a failure message that informed me I'd installed with this code one time too many. What... the... $%~&!

Ok, still not a disaster. I've had this happen with Windows XP before—all I have to do is call the number in the manual, read off the reactivation request code supplied by the activation wizard, and they'll give me an unlock code. Well, not so simple in this case—the support number for the US listed in the manual didn't work, giving me a "We cannot connect your call at this time" message. So I called the Canadian number, which went through. After four minutes on hold, I was told that the only way they'd unlock it is if I take a photo of the disc and the manual and email it to them. Wow… even Microsoft doesn’t make you do that.

Having now jumped through all their hoops hours ago, I’m currently waiting for 2K to get around to allowing me to play my legitimate copy of the game on the system of my choosing. Meanwhile, the pirates who cracked Windows Vista’s activation in a matter of days are already at work on the game, and I sincerely doubt that the BioShock copy protection wall will still be standing a week from today. And while those pirates play their ill-gotten games without a care, those of us who came by our copies legally will have to put up with draconian obstacles that will then serve no purpose whatsoever.

Well done 2K, well done indeed.

Hmm... Let open the gates.

At time of writing 31,800 people have downloaded an illegal copy of the PC version of BioShock from a single torrent site, and users are reporting that there's already a working activation crack. We're willing to bet a fair few of those people are gamers who'd happily pay for the game if meant they would truly own it.

All cracked ones are deff gonna be fake Smile
