Just in case anyone has been having problems with their cards, there was some new drivers released for both ATI and Nvidia cards to fix some inital BioShock problems. ATI fixed an issue in DirectX 10 mode that caused alot of corruption on screen. I'm not sure what Nvidia's fixed, but the driver is a beta driver and I don't think it's specific to BioShock fixing but apparantly does include some fixes for the game. You can get whichever from:
ATI Hotfix (737-29041)
163.44 Nvidia driver (Beta!)
The ATI one is especially important because it isn't included in the main 7.8 Catalyst pack that was released only a few days ago, and you need to install the hotfix directly otherwise you are going to have issues in DX10 mode when playing BioShock.

Does anyone else experience out-of-sync audio? For example in the beginning where the splicer is attacking that innocent man you can see the splicer's claws striking the man's torso before you hear it.

Fraps will not work with Vista. It's part of microsofts DRM protection scheme.

That's not true.
Microsoft's Sam Glassenberg told Next-Gen in a phone interview, "DX10.1 fully supports DX10 hardware. No hardware support is being removed....It's strictly a superset. It's basically an update to DX10 that extends the hardware functionality slightly."

Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
Realtek AC' 97 Sound with latest driver builds + I installed OpenAL fix aswell

for anyone with shader2.0 and not 3.0 it actually is possible to play this game
on the official forums is a post with the files needed to get it running almost flawlessly on shader 2.0 cards!
I really dont like how some game developers set their games to only work on the newer hardware when older hardware can still run it fine too - very dodgy

How the hell you guys happened to install the game at all? I'm trying to install it and at the end of installation process it checks disk, tries to download patch and then, when I click OK, setup just closes saying that program was not installed.
Any workaround except buying a legal copy?

I bought the game, and it won't install at all. I can't even see the disk in My Computer. I have min. requirements, running XP w/SP2, current version of DX9c. Could the copy protection be detecting drive emulation software? I have Daemon Tools and Alcohol installed, with virtual drives for both...also tried running latest version of YASU to cloak the drives and that didn't help.

I hate to ask a stupid question but you do have a dvd drive at least right. Not sure if oyu need a dvd DL to read a dvd 9 (someoen feel free to chime in on this)
I would turn off both alcohol and daemon tool to make sure that isn't the culprit

SpykeZ,
you should edit your first post. latest Fraps will work with Vista and Bioshock as it has no full Vista support.
Quote: | The latest Fraps 2.9 release adds support for Vista and DirectX 10 games. With games starting to appear using DirectX 10 graphics we are happy to report that benchmarking, video capture, and screenshots are now all fully supported for these titles. |

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes...it's a NEC DVD RW ND-3520AW with most current firmware, and according to nero tool it's capable of DVD +/-R DL read and write. I spoke with 2k U.S. tech support last night (surprisingly good, they answered the phone in less than 10 mins. and the guy said they're operating 24/7), and he agreed that DT and Alcohol might be causing the problem...I completely uninstalled both, same problem. Possible bad install disk, I'm going to exchange it at Gamestop.

It could also be a bad drive. I have a dvd drive in my other computer that doesn't like to read some cd's dvd's unless it wants to or feel sorry for me for blowing blood vessals. Unless you already took it back try popping in another dvd drive.
And I'm quite impressed with this thread so far. Hardly any serious issues unlike other games. Mostly just about fraps, couple sound bugs and people not having SM3.0 lol

I have a NEC drive aswell and all I can say is great burner but rubbish reader, now I've never had a problem like you say, but I can tell you NEC drives are very picky so it may be worth checking the disc in another pc with DVD drive, if it works I would get a decent reader drive (Pioneers are good I think, Samsungs also brill readers afaik),

Yeah, I've had problems with this drive reading some CD-r's I know that. I exchanged the original disk for another, same problem, so I'm guessing it's this drive. I've ordered a Samsung SH 203B that I'll be getting tomorrow, and I'll try it then...supposed to be a kickass drive.

Alright gonna put my situation in here.
I got a 8800GTX, 2gigs of RAM, and an E6600 (not OC/ed)
Basically I got everything at max (if you can call it that) except that I turned V-sync off.
When I'm fighting with more than 3 characters on screen and shooting aswell...my FPS drops to below 15.
Now, I haven't tried the latest Beta drivers yet, but I'm not sure how's that gonna help.
Any suggestions?

Try the new drivers actually, those beta drivers are known for doing wonders. I gained about an extra 10FPS in some games alone with my 7900.
