Videolan can play these just fine.

Whatever you do, don't use CoreAVC to play them, it has some major bugs and causes ugly blocking for some reason.

Get used to it, he'll never say anything good about it cause he hates it. I've been using it for months and I've still yet to see any "blocking" or any else negative said. I've gotten nothing but good performance by it.

Yah weird, I've never experienced it either on an 8foot screen too. Just wish there was a way of getting CoreAVC to be used in decoding original blu-ray/hd-dvds. (Well downloaded ones Wink)

Approved when you said that "he'll never say anything good about it cause he hates it".
Simple and effective.

Speaking of x264, anyone know of an [b]AGP[/i] graphics card that will do hardware x264? I don't play video games so no point in getting PCI-express mobo for my HTPC.

Well 94.24 drivers or whatever it was for nvidia said to support h.264 acceleration for the 7 series card. I believe the last AGP card for the 7 series was the 7800GS. ATI might have did the same thing but I don't follow their cards anymore. Also dunno what socket you have BUT if you have a socket that can run a dual core, using coreAVC Pro takes advantage of multicores and REALLY does a huge job and running shit better.

Haven't tried 1.5 actually, what I said was based on versions <=1.3

And no, I'm not biased. I used to use CoreAVC regularly and I experienced many of the blockings I was talking about, and I just gave up. FFdshow user now, having great fun.

[EDIT]OK here we go, proof that 1.5 is not fixed:

Found it on the HDBits forum. As you know, it's my source for HD stuff, and I trust their users.

Wait, now I'm confused lol. Do you mean coreAVC sucks ass when making an HD into a rip etc or sucks for watching the movies.

CoreAVC is only a decoder, no encoder has been made available publicly yet. So no, the sample is encoded with x264.

CoreAVC has problems decoding some streams. I don't think the specifics of what's causing it to go nuts are known, only that it produces those blockings, when no other decoder does (some dude from Doom9.org tested like 6-7 decoders).

The blocking is not found on every movie you watch. On some you do see them. When you watch a lot of HD content, those some become a lot.

well i watched about 50 of hd stuff and saw blocking and shit on crappy Commando, Predator and first episode of Masters Of Science which honestly was worse than regular avi rip
mind u those were film defects not a codec trouble, probably just lucky i guess
watching only on 32" hdtv and not on pc monitor

install klite codec pack and Bobs your uncle. I have 2Tb of movies in HD and the quality is fantastic. I use vista MCE to playback but media player works great in XP

codec packs are usually far more trouble than theyre worth.

i dont use vlc for playing videos, only for checking incomplete files because its really good at that... but as a movie viewer i really dislike it... either zoomplayer or good ol' mpc for me, yo

cccp is almost exclusively ffdshow + just a few additional bits, like the haali renderer
and most other 'codec packs' are not just packs of codecs anymore as such
ffdshow really is a damn godsent
the windows codec environment was a pile of fubar
