Installed LOLCATS version and when I run it I get Bioshock.exe has stopped working. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 and I installed the AMD dual core patch and both the x86 and x64 Visual C redist. Anyone have the same problem or any ideas what to do to get it to work correctly??
thanks

Well reinstalled it, installed the amd dual core fix, updated c++, updated my ati drivers, updated Directx, updated my realtech driver, and I still get the same lockups with a ati 1950 pro 256 meg.
Also, every time the game is launched, you need to reset key bindings, and graphic setings since they don;t save, and I still get a lockup every 5 minutes or so.. some are bsod crashes point to the ati video card driver, some are just total lockups.
Never had this much trouble running a game before, but its just not worth it at this point. Last possibility is turning off the advanced shaders, and see if that helps.

I'm using the LOLCATS version, and when I load a game, it stops responding.
Ex. I am playing bioshock, save game, exit, start bioshock, load game, game stops responding.
I am playing bioshock, save game, load game, games loaded.
Someone said it was because of corrupt saves, I have over 20 save files, how can they all be corrupt?
I also noticed it doesnt save settings.
edit: Ok I figured it out.
This version as far as I can tell doesnt save your game settings(the things you adjust like sound, graphics)
So, each time you restart it, you have to match the setting you used on the save to get it to load.

Weird tbh. My version seems to work without any hitches. Settings stay after restart, saves all work, no crashes. Didnt use the scenepwned crack (or maybe that is what the lolcats release does, in that case i guess i did).

im using retail...
i had a lockup and had to hard reset the machine, afterwards my settings were reset to defaults.
i had lots of stuttering audio (on XP), but installed OpenAL and it works perfect now.
only real problem i have with the game is that its obvious it was designed for a console.
i now play it at 800x600 for the extra FPS and it looks fine to me

I need to know something. I am at the end of a certain level, but when I try to pass it, I get a warning telling me that there is still a sister I did not get. I found four of them in the level, but can't seem to get the last one.
I see two big daddy's walking around but with no sisters. Do I need to just follow them around as they bang on the little tunnels where the sisters crawl through?
I want to pass this level already but can't get the last sister on the level, where the f**k is she?

Ya this happened to me as well. I just follow one of them around until they banged on one of the tunnel things.

I got the LOLCATS version, mounted, installed and unmounted the image. The game works perfectly. No DVD in drive. So yeah maybe a hardware issue on some folks' PCs here. Also options save and you can change the difficulty just fine.
PS. It runs smooth at 1920x1200 all settings maxed except DX10 stuff under WinXP on a 8800GTX with E6600. I am guessing Nvidia hardware is more optimized for it.

What kind of crack is on the lolcats version? Same as the ind crackfix? The thing is, I have a direct rip of the dvd and I have applied the ind crack - it seems to work, but now wonder if it's better to get the lolcats version?

Turning off both advanced hardware settings reduces crashes down to a half=hour to 45 minutes each. Still you'd think if I can run the bloody things, that they wouldn;t crash my machine!
Think I'm hainging up bioshock for now.. I'm REALLY gald I didn;t shell out money for something like this, that won't even run properly. I can; recall a game in the last year I;ve had so many issues with.
I just hope they work the kinks out of the ut3 engine before it's released.. for a 1st person shooter, you need stability and good frame rates on as much hardware as possible, otherwise it won;t catch on, and there won't be a player base.

My system is only a 5 months old, dual core athlon, ati 1950 pro 256 meg, 500 watt power supply, 4 gig ram, 550 gig hd.
I get excellent framerates on oblivion, tomb raider anniversary, just about everything I've tossed at my system.
Framerates in Bioshock were great, except of course for the constan lockups. when i get a bsod message, it always has something to do with the video drivers, and rolling back to wo provious versions yielded no cure.
There's a ati hotfix for some lockup issues, but that only rolls you back to the previous driver version.
With any luck, this month's ati driver will cure the crash issues. I will say I LOVE Bioshock's eye candy, and seeing fast framerates from it was a treat, when it worked. running at higher resolutions did slow it down, but with everything on thats to be expected, and in first person shooters, you usually want to run a little lower res to maximize framerates, and keep as much eye candy as possible.

What processor are you running? I'm running amd dual core 5000+.
I was still seing very playable framerates at 1280x1024, and usually prefer higher res over aa personally.

no, its even smoother.
i have a 6700 quad core 2.66ghz. 2gb ram.. i love my aa, always have, so i couldnt tell you that id prefer an insanely high res over a lower one with some nice anti-aliasing... i mean doesnt the pic look stunning? compare it to the same thing but without the aa and it makes a huge visual change.

So, each time you restart it, you have to match the setting you used on the save to get it to load. |
Crash Resets:
Each time you crash in Bioshock the game automatically loses all your altered settings and any customizations (including .ini changes) you've made. This happens because it replaces your Bioshock.ini and User.ini files - which hold your custom settings - with new ones based on the standard Default.ini and DefUser.ini files. You can however prevent this reset by going into the folder where your Bioshock.ini and User.ini are stored [C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Bioshock] immediately after a crash (and before restarting BioShock), and deleting the new Running.ini file held there. This file informs BioShock that an incidence of the game was stopped improperly, and by deleting it you prevent the .ini file reset.

people kept saying you have to force aa in your graphics card settings... i assumed that it'd be as easy as it sounded but i tried many different settings and always the same result... i had aa, but i also had massive lighting and distortion glitches. i updated to the nvidia beta drivers, which fixed the problem. i dont know if ati cards can do it...

How do you turn them off? Where are they for that matter?
