Q6600 blew up yesterday, RMA'd it should be getting that back next week Sad

Installed my old E4300 and was wondering if anyone has overclocked this little puppy.

how can it "blow up"? Just wondering, don't they clock themselves down if the temperature gets too high? I was under the impression you coukdn't kill cpus with heat anymore *shrugs*

Not sure, it was running at 3.0 (1333 FSB) and it was super stable. I went to install my new 320 GB and put the other in a raid format and it stop running. Went to open the side, started it up again and motherboard sent sparks flying my way. I took it to a bud who owns a PC parts store and he said it overheated. He also said it was because it was a B series and I should get the G series when it gets back.

Yeah the G0 stepping has a reduced Thermal output so they run much cooler. I wouldn't have tried OC'ing the current 2+2 Quad cores that are available now, too much heat.

well what did you expect me to say? Smile If i had sparks coming at me from inside the case i wouldn't be brave enough to put another cpu in there, but appearantly it's still working for him, so no harm done except the cpu i guess

Warranty? Or is the US totally fucked up?

I had a warranty, i should have the G series this coming up week. I got the E4300 @ 2.4GHz on air, really cant tell the difference between this in the quad when I'm gaming.

I always start to get a little scared when I have to raise the V-Core, I got it to 3.0 Ghz.

For regular day shit and gaming, OC'ing a C2D to the point where you need to bump up the V-Core is a waste of effort IMO. If it's Orthos stable at 2.4-3.0 Ghz, why raise the V-Core to achieve 3.2 Ghz?

Just be glad you got E6600 speed for that price. And yeah you wouldn't notice much difference in gaming performance, depending on your resolution at least. Your Vid card would be the limiting factor in Higher res' anyway.
