Well PCG UK lost all credibility with me when they gave DeusEx 2 a score over 90%.

I can see your basis for that arguement in regard to the scores it receives, but I myself dont give a rats ass about PC game review scores, especially magazine reviews, which are by far worse and more biased then any other medium.
I dont expect HL2 to revolutionize anything, I expect the best physics I've ever seen in a game, I want an atmospheric, polished, well directed/choreographed FPS. I expect it to have proper pacing, great in game cutscenes and scripts, challenging AI...the standard things you come to expect in a high production value FPS, if it delivers on those then it deserves all the praise it gets, but it doesnt need to revolutionize the genre.
Besides its a sequel, it has to follow certain guidelines laid down by the first game, you cant change it into a different type of game just to try and advance computer gaming as a whole, they are here to deliver a quality sequel to a great game. You cant say it doesnt add its fair share of new concepts and features over Half-Life 1, I think they have done plenty to justify it being a great step forward for the half-life series, beyond that what can you expect out of this? |
Just to note, it uses Havok so many games have the exact same physics including games like Max Payne 2... |
What ZacXz said, its not what they use, its how they use it...they dont just copy paste this havoc code into their engine and say boom done, they customize it to get the most out of it and thats exactly what they have done.

I didnt go into it with the misconception that it was going to be highly interactive, just a blast fest like the original Dooms. I actually was surprised when you could interact with some of the computer terminals and such. People keep bashing the reviews, well I would give it a high review also. It has great graphics (if your system can handle it), and great moody atmosphere. What did you expect it to be? |
..... less repetative.

lmao some valve stupid coder didnt make
mat_depthbias_normal 1 a locked command in the console unless sv_cheats 1 is enabled
guess what it does? built in wallhack lmfao.
aparently people have been sending bug reports about it to valve since the beta first opened.
so maybe spreading the command will get it fixed quicker.
